The 2022 NFL pre-season has given way to a new era in Green Bay. The Packers have a team that will rely on their youth to make it deep in the playoffs, and two specific playmakers have emerged. Packers QB Jordan Love and WR Romeo Doubs have proven this pre-season they may have the ability to be top level NFL players.
Christian Watson has been sidelined with an injury for much of the pre-season. His unfortunate injury has given way to Romeo Doubs putting on quite the display against the Niners and Saints. Doubs has two impressive touchdowns so far as well as multiple highlight worthy moments throughout camp. Pre-season statistics don’t always tell the whole story, but specific plays certainly do. His touchdown against the Saints proves he has the ability to move his body and make the play.

Doubs has gotten multiple drives in with the first team offense during practice as well. But as great as Romeo Doubs has been, his success has been amplified due to how well Jordan Love has been playing. Jordan Love thus far has 289 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions this pre-season. The numbers aren’t overly impressive but considering how much Love has played thus far it is reasonable.
A Packers Duo for the Future?
Let’s face it, pre-season statistics don’t really matter in the end, because they aren’t actually counted. Along with this, pre-season statistics aren’t as big of an indicator of whether or not a player is doing well as most would think. For example, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur alluded to the fact that he is looking for a specific mold for the third running back. If that concept is true for every position, then Jordan Love is doing an amazing job.

It is no secret Jordan Love has learned a significant amount from Aaron Rodgers. The coaching staff has helped Love focus on key points in Rodgers’ game. In this side by side, Love and Rodgers make similar plays that both result in touchdowns.
Here’s #Packers QBs Aaron Rodgers (2007) and Jordan Love (2022) playing in the preseason of their third year in the NFL.
Just randomly came across this Rodgers clip and paired it up with Love’s touchdown last week to Doubs.

Again, it is pre-season in both of these clips, but the movement and ability to find the play is unmatched. After seeing the play of both Love and Doubs, it is reminiscent of the Rodgers-Adams connection. Obviously, the production isn’t there yet and real competition has not happened yet. However, the confidence is there and it is clear they have practiced the exact plays and situations consistently.
Rodgers and Adams had a connection like no other, so the idea of comparing the two can be pretty absurd. The fact is that Love and Doubs are slowly learning how to do the same.
Unfortunately, barring injuries, it may be a couple years before the duo comes to fruition. Aaron Rodgers will hopefully play out his career with the Packers. Until then, Love will wait and prepare to take over the team.
