The win was Craig Counsell’s 563rd as manager, tying him for the most in franchise history. Counsell is still the leader in all-time win percentage as a manager for the Brewers.

The Milwaukee Brewers were led on offense by short stop Willy Adames. Despite a slow start to the season at the plate, Adames went 2-4 with a home run and three RBI on Sunday.

Willy Adames now leads the Milwaukee Brewers with 11 home runs on the season. After the game was over, though, he gave all the credit for the win to the Brewers’ pitching staff:

Jason Alexander Makes Brewers History
Rookie starter Jason Alexander made his third start of the season for the Milwaukee Brewers. While he did not get his first Major League win, he did enough to limit the Washington Nationals. Alexander pitched 4.2 innings allowing seven hits, three walks, one run, and two strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 2.16. This mark is the third lowest in team history after a pitcher’s first three starts to start out their career:

Andrew McCutchen Continues His Tear
After going through a 1-40 slump, Andrew McCutchen has been a hitting machine for the Brewers. Today, McCutchen went 1-4 with a home run, his fourth of the season.

Jace Peterson: Web Gem
Jace Peterson had a lousy day at the plate, going 0-4. However, he did have this highlight-reel catch in foul territory:

The Bullpen Looked Sharp
The Milwaukee Brewers had lost eight games in a row. While some of the losses were due to poor offense, there were some definite struggles from the pitching staff as well. That was not true today, though, as four Brewers relievers combined to allow just one hit and no runs in 4.1 innings of work:
- Hoby Milner: 1.1 innings pitched, one hit, one strikeout (earned the win)
- Brad Boxberger: One inning pitched, no hits, two strikeouts
- Devin Williams: One inning pitched, no hits, one walk, no strikeouts
- Josh Hader: One inning pitched, no hits, three strikeouts (earned the save)
Game Notes
- Luis Urias left the game in the fifth inning with right hamstring tightness
- Omar Narvaez continued his hot streak at the plate going 2-4; he is now hitting .283/.372/.416
- Tyrone Taylor was 2-3 with a run scored
- Christian Yelich was 1-4 with a run scored as the Brewers’ leadoff hitter
- Rowdy Tellez was 1-4
Up Next
The Milwaukee Brewers have an off-day on Monday before heading to New York to play the Mets. Adrian Houser (3-6, 3.92 ERA) will pitch for Milwaukee against Chris Bassitt (4-4, 4.35 ERA) of the Mets.
