It was an exciting weekend in Pittsburgh as the Brewers battled the Pirates. Here is a complete recap of the series and what to expect next from the Brew Crew.
Brewers vs. Pirates Game One:
Final Score: 8-7 Pirates
Freddy Peralta took the mound for Milwaukee, facing off against Pittsburgh’s Osvaldo Bido. Peralta pitched 5.1 innings and allowed three earned runs, a rather average start. Milwaukee’s offense was able to get to Bido, who lasted just 3.1 innings and allowed four earned runs.
Christian Yelich ignited the offense with an RBI double in the third inning. Willy Adames and William Contreras followed suit by driving in runs on outs. Additionally, Rowdy Tellez solidified the lead with an RBI single, resulting in a 4-0 score in favor of the Brewers. Milwaukee added three more runs in the seventh inning with RBI doubles from Owen Miller and Brice Turang. The Brewers were up 7-5 going into the bottom of the ninth when Matt Bush allowed three runs and lost the game. He was designated for assignment the following day.
Brewers vs. Pirates Game Two:
Final Score: 11-8 Brewers
Corbin Burnes started for Milwaukee in game two, facing off against Pittsburgh’s Johan Oviedo. Burnes pitched seven innings, allowing two earned runs and just one hit. Oviedo struggled, giving up eight runs over his five innings of work.
Rowdy Tellez kicked it off with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and Blake Perkins added another run with an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the second. Christian Yelich then smashed a three-run home run in the second inning, and Rowdy Tellez picked up another RBI on a groundout, making it 6-0 Brewers. Milwaukee remained quiet until the sixth inning when Jesse Winker hit a three-run double and Victor Caratini followed with an RBI single to extend the lead. Milwaukee scored their final run of the game in the seventh inning when Raimel Tapia hit a solo home run. Although Milwaukee’s bullpen had some shaky moments, they managed to close out the game.
Brewers vs. Pirates Game Three:
Final Score: 6-3 Brewers
Colin Rea took the mound for Milwaukee, facing off against Pittsburgh’s Rich Hill. Rea had a great start, allowing just two earned runs over 6.2 innings. Hill, on the other hand, had a rather average start, giving up three earned runs in five innings of work.
William Contreras kicked off the scoring for Milwaukee with a three-run blast in the third inning. After that, Milwaukee was held scoreless until the eighth inning when a throwing error allowed two runs to score. Andruw Monasterio sealed the victory with an RBI double in the ninth. Devin Williams earned his seventeenth save of the season, closing out the series.
Takeaways:
Overall, this was a solid series for Milwaukee. The starting pitching was strong, and so was the offense. If it weren’t for the bullpen, this series might have resulted in a sweep. However, it’s important to note that the bullpen was understaffed due to the six-man rotation and lack of off days. Let’s hope Milwaukee can carry this momentum into their next series against the Chicago Cubs.
