Brewers: 3 Rookies Guaranteed To Make Their Debut In 2023

Last year, top Brewers prospects Ethan Small and Garrett Mitchell made their debuts in the major leagues.  Pitchers Peter Strzlecki and Jason Alexander were two other rookies who also made their debuts.  Looking ahead to the 2023 season, both Matt Arnold and Craig Counsell have spoken highly about the top prospects in the Brewers farm system, especially the outfielders.  Additionally, they both have said that a lot of these prospects have earned a chance at major league playing time.

Players believed to be ready to make the final jump to the big leagues are listed next. Sal Frelick, Joey Wiemer, Brice Turang, Blake Perkins, Gus Varland, Cam Robinson, Abner Uribe, and even Jackson Chourio.  Of these players listed, Turang, Perkins, Varland, Robinson, and Uribe are all currently on the Brewers 40-man roster.

Having a plethora of young talent ready to make the final jump to the big leagues is a good thing.  However, we likely will not see all of the top prospects make their debuts in 2023.  Here are three Brewers players who are guaranteed to make their debut in 2023.

The assumption that these players are guaranteed to make their major league debut in 2023 is barring any trade or injury.

#1 Brewers player guaranteed to debut in 2023: INF Brice Turang

The Brewers 2018 first round draft pick has nothing left to prove in the minor leagues.  Turang has performed well against the highest level of MiLB competition, showed off some power last season, and even improved his defensive versatility by playing in the outfield. With the Brew Crew trading Kolten Wong, Turang will have the opportunity to earn a starting spot at second base.

#2 Brewers player guaranteed to debut in 2023: RHP Gus Varland

Varland was the Brewers selection in this year’s Rule 5 draft.  He has to stay on the 26-man roster in order for the Brewers to retain him.  The former starting pitcher switched to a reliever last year and began lighting up the radar gun and racking up strikeouts.  Unless the Brewers see something that they do not like in spring training, Varland will be on the opening day roster.

#3 Brewers player guaranteed to debut in 2023: OF Sal Frelick

There currently are five outfielders on the Brewers big league team.  Of those outfielders, Yelich and Mitchell are expected to play a lot, Winker will likely see a lot of time at designated hitter, Taylor’s role may be best suited as a backup, and Perkins has minor league options left.  Frelick performed too well last season to not get a chance with the Brewers.  He will debut with them in 2023, it is just a matter of when.
