Matt Arnold has been busy this week. A day after trading away Hunter Renfroe, he has made an acquisition for a young outfielder. He signed Blake Perkins, previously in the Yankees organization, to a major league deal. Perkins now joins Christian Yelich, Tyrone Taylor, Garrett Mitchell, and Esteury Ruiz as outfielders on the 40-man roster.

Who is Blake Perkins?
Perkins is a 26 year old switch hitting outfielder. He initially was drafted out of High School in the second round of the MLB draft by the Nationals in 2015. In 2018 he was traded to the Royals and ultimately elected free agency after the conclusion of the 2021 season. Following that he signed a minor league deal with the Yankees where last year he played at their Double-A and Triple-A levels.
As a player, Perkins is known as a glove before bat type player who has some speed. He has stolen 126 bases in his minor league career. However, he did have his best power year in 2022. Last year his slugging percentage was .456 and he also hit 15 home runs.
Perkins has not yet made his MLB debut and comes with three minor league options. It is unclear exactly how Perkins will fit in among the current Brewers outfielders. The good news is that he comes with flexibility and has a lot of similar qualities to the Brewers current upcoming outfield prospects.

Typical brewer move…always a fringe team at best.
