The St. Louis Cardinals executed a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays 18 days ago in which shortstop Paul DeJong was dealt minor league pitcher Matt Svanson.  At the time Toronto had recently placed their star shortstop Bo Bichette on the IL with a knee injury.  Today Bo Bichette was activated off the IL and Paul DeJong was DFA’d as a corresponding roster move. The Milwaukee Brewers did just enough to escape with a 9-8 victory on Friday night over the Texas Rangers.  Runs came in bunches in this game as the Brewers had three separate three run innings and the Rangers had a three run fourth inning, one run sixth, and then scored four runs in the ninth. The NL Central Standings have been tightly contested all season long.  Currently the Milwaukee Brewers (65-54) have the largest lead of the year at 3.5 games, but the Chicago Cubs (61-57) and Cincinnati Reds (62-58) are within striking distance of both the division as well as Wild Card. Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez has been on the IL for quite some time.  He initially was recovering from forearm inflammation but then a freak incident while shagging fly balls resulted in a bad finger injury.  Most recently he has been on a minor league rehab assignment, but could be back during the Texas Rangers series. The Milwaukee Brewers offense in 2023 has not been great.  They rank near the bottom in batting average, on base-percentage, slugging, and OPS.  Despite this they are currently on top of the National League Central division and would be a playoff team if the season ended today.
