St. Louis Cardinals rookie Masyn Winn recorded his first career hit on Friday night against the New York Mets. The saying “you will never forget your first” could not be more true in this instance for after this milestone opposing first baseman Pete Alonso chucked the ball into the stands.

Following the game Pete Alonso said, “I feel horrible. I feel awful. I didn’t mean to — I know it sounds stupid, but it’s just a bad brain fart. … I feel like a piece of crap. In the heat of the moment, you kind of just get lost.” He did apologize multiple times to Masyn Winn and the ball thankfully was able to be retrieved by security, but fans on social media were quite disgruntled with him.

The optimist in me thought Alonso was actually trying to throw it to Masyn’s parents in the stands. That would have been really cool.
Instead, it was a super jerk move. Maybe the fans who hate Alonso are on to something.
