If you’ve been around the Milwaukee sports media scene for a while, you know things look pretty different from say…when Brett Favre first became the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. Heck, it’s very different now when compared to Aaron Rodgers’ first days under center. I spent almost ten years at 1250/105.7 WSSP “The Fan” in Milwaukee and I started there working with Doug Russell. Doug has been around your Wisconsin radio dial for the better part of 3 decades (sorry, Doug) and so I wanted to have a conversation with him about a few things including the Packers…
This week on “Wickett ON Wisconsin”….. With a playoff birth on the line this weekend for the Green Bay Packers, I joined up with my old friend, Bart Winkler for a joint podcast ! Bart & I used to work together at 1250/105.7 FM The Fan in Milwaukee and we kicked around some old times, talked Packers & Lions, the Bucks and what in the world Skip Bayless was thinking. So please sit back, relax and enjoy two guys who wrote this Packers team off WEEKS AGO as they try to eat crow and get back on the bandwagon. Listen…
We always call an MLB season a grind but football can be one too. The Packers turnaround has been nothing short of SHOCKING. Like you, I left this team for dead back in November. (A 1-7 stretch after a 3-1 start will do that) An offense that looked completely discombobulated. A quarterback who loves to play “hero ball” regardless of how effective his short passing or running game was. A head coach who didn’t appear to have control of said quarterback. And a defense that was lead by a coordinator who lacks any idea of how to fix issues that…
It’s a split Wickett ON Wisconsin podcast this week. First up: The 4 game sprint to the end of the season begins for the Green Bay Packers. Rams, Dolphins, Vikings and Lions. Win those 4 and you’re 9-8 with an outside shot at the playoffs. I discuss the possibility of DOING that and the other side of the coin: TANKING. I’ll tell you right now that NOBODY in that Packers locker room (outside of Jordan Love) wants Aaron Rodgers to sit. Also on this week’s podcast: Ben Worgull from BadgerBlitz.com joins me to talk about the beginning of the Luke…
Usually, when the Green Bay Packer get embarrassed on national television like they did on Sunday night by the Philadelphia Eagles, I’m pretty upset. This time? Not so much. Sure, watching the defense get TRUCKED for 500 yards (363 on the ground) was annoying but it (along with getting torched by RYAN FREAKING TANNEHILL the week before) probably was the beginning of the end for Joe Barry as Defensive Coordinator in Titletown. ALSO – the running game looked GREAT (when utilized) and we all saw a totally different Jordan Love in the 2nd half after Aaron Rodgers left with multiple…
I’ve never been happier to see the Green Bay Packers win a game in early November than week 10 vs the Dallas Cowboys. The only thing that makes me happier? The WAY they won. 20 passes for Aaron Rodgers. That’s it. He wasn’t knocked out of the game or pulled due to poor performance. It was simply this: THE GREEN BAY PACKERS RAN THE BALL and won the game. I was thrilled. If only they had done this against the Giants…or the Jets…or the Commanders…or the Lions. I hope whatever light went on last week in practice or in meetings…
“Is this what it’s like to be a Bears fan”? That’s what I asked my neighbor after the Packers 15-9 loss to the Lions. (I still can’t believe I just wrote that score.) I haven’t felt this way before, this early in November. This HAS to be what Bears fans have felt most of the last 30+ years. Your team is way out in the standings and there’s NOTHING they can do to fix the problems. The Packers season is over (for all championship intents and purposes). They were 3-1 and up 20-10 in game 5 of the year. Since…
NOTE: LISTEN TO MY PODCAST BEFORE YOU TRASH ME. #LongGame It’s hard to fathom that after a 3-1 start, the Green Bay Packers are now 3-4. To make things worse, nothing looks “right” on offense, Aaron Rodgers is throwing everyone under the bus and now here comes the TOUGHEST part of the Packers schedule. There’s lots of blame to toss around and I make sure to discuss all of that on this week’s podcast but for me it starts with two guys: The Head Coach and the Quarterback. Rodgers says he’s “troubled” by his injured right thumb on “a couple…
I’m not gonna lie…there’s real trouble brewing in Green Bay. There are LOTS of problems with this Packers team right now. It’s not just one guy or one unit or one coach. It’s all over. And after watching them lose to the New York Jets in the least enjoyable Packers game of the Aaron Rodgers era, it’s apparent to me: The 2022 Green Bay Packers have hit ROCK BOTTOM. I can only HOPE that it doesn’t get any worse than this. Choosing NOT to take the bye week after the London game was pure disrespect to the Jets. THIS roster…
Ask Green Bay Packers fans, I think MOST of us still root for Davante Adams. I know I do. On this week’s Wickett ON Wisconsin podcast, I discussed the pushing incident that happened on Monday night after the Las Vegas Raiders lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. Honestly, I felt a little ill. I was Ill because we all knew what we saw and we all know THAT isn’t Davante. And in the few days after he pushed a member of the media to the ground, we now know along with a fine and a suspension from the NFL, Adams…
