Chris Vogt, a Cincinnati graduate transfer, has committed to Wisconsin’s men’s basketball program. With his commitment, UW’s 2021-2022 roster is completed. He will provide the Badgers with much needed experience down low after graduating big men Nate Reuvers and Micah Potter.  Vogt, a 7’1”, 260 pound center, was a three star recruit coming out of Graves County High School in Kentucky. He began his collegiate career at Northern Kentucky before transferring to Cincinnati after two seasons. After a whirlwind first day of the 2021 NFL draft, the Packers selected Ohio State center Josh Myers in the second round.  The 62nd pick of this year’s draft will provide depth to Green Bay’s offensive line, who lost center Corey Linsley in free agency to the Chargers this offseason. Undefeated, top-ranked Wisconsin volleyball fell to Texas in the final four Thursday night in Omaha. The number four ranked Longhorns were impressive from start to finish, while Wisconsin was a step behind all night. The Badgers took a 20-16 lead in the first set, but Texas rallied to take the set 26-24. The Longhorns dominated set two, winning 25-19. Wisconsin made a final push in set three and took a one point lead, 18-17, but the Longhorns completed the sweep, taking the final set 25-23.  Wisconsin struggled offensively, hitting only .220 on the night. The Wisconsin Badger volleyball team earned a hard-fought victory over the eighth seeded Florida Gators Monday night. The Elite Eight match went to five sets, marking the first time all year the Badgers played a fifth set.  Wisconsin fought off an impressive Gator comeback in the first set to win 30-28. Florida rallied in the second set to win comfortably, 25-18. Wisconsin took the third set 25-22, but the Gators would not go away. Florida won the fourth set 25-18 to force a fifth. Wisconsin’s men’s basketball program received a commitment from Wake Forest transfer point guard Jahcobi Neath Thursday night.  Neath, a 6-foot-3 point guard from Canada, played his first two seasons in the ACC at Wake Forest. Neath entered his name in the transfer portal after a disappointing sophomore season under first year head coach Steve Forbes. He averaged 3.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while averaging 15.8 minutes a game. Longtime Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez announced his retirement from the University of Wisconsin Tuesday afternoon. In his speech, Alvarez shared that his retirement will go into effect July 1st.  Matt Lepay, voice of the Badgers, opened the event by saying, “This is a day of celebration.” However, it’s hard for Badger fans not to be a little sad about Alvarez’s departure, knowing the impact he’s had on the university’s athletic department. The Badger volleyball team was given the top seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament during Sunday’s selection show. With this seed, the undefeated, Big Ten champion Badgers earned a first round bye and will open play in the second round of the tournament on April 15. The Wisconsin volleyball team has endured a year unlike any other. Their season was moved from fall to spring, and they were forced to pause all team activities for three weeks because of a coronavirus outbreak among the team. In addition, several of their matches were cancelled due to other teams’ COVID concerns, leading them to play only a fraction of a normal season’s matches.  However, tonight, there was some normalcy. Barry Alvarez, Wisconsin’s long time athletic director, is expected to announce soon that he is retiring. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, multiple sources have said that Alvarez will publicly share his plan within the next few weeks.  Wisconsin’s deputy athletic director, Chris McIntosh, is said to be Alvarez’s preferred pick to take over the soon-to-be vacant position. However, UW could look to fill the position with someone who has no ties to the University. It’s unclear at this time whether they will conduct a national search.
