Badger Seniors

The members of Wisconsin’s senior class have all taken different paths to end up where they are today. The group–made up of scholarship players, walk-ons, transfers, and redshirts–has come together to overcome adversity, set records, and win championships. While this season may not have lived up to our expectations or ended the way Badger Nation was hoping it would, the accomplishments of these players and everything they have done for this program should not be overlooked. Conference tournaments have wrapped up and the final bracket is in. The Wisconsin basketball team was given the ninth seed in the South region by the NCAA tournament selection committee.  The Badgers (17-12) will play 8 seed North Carolina (18-10) in the opening round of the tournament on Friday. The time and location of the game has not been released. The winner will advance to the round of 32 and play the winner of 1 seed Baylor and 16 seed Hartford.  Bracketology experts all had significantly different opinions regarding what seed UW would receive heading into selection Sunday. The University of Wisconsin is the only school in the country with two women’s sports ranked number one. The Badgers’ volleyball team and women’s hockey team each hold the top spots in their respective sports. And this isn’t new; they’ve held these highest rankings for weeks.  At a university where successful men’s sports have consistently garnered national attention, it’s easy for some to look past the accomplishments of the women’s teams. Micah Potter has been phenomenal as a Badger. However, Potter’s success at Wisconsin has not come without struggles. Leaving Ohio State to transfer to UW was painful. Not only was he leaving his home state school, but he also had to deal with confusing and inconsistent NCAA eligibility issues. These issues resulted in him not playing in a basketball game for 644 days.  When Potter was finally eligible to play during the middle of last season, his impact was immediate and undeniable. D’Mitrik Trice is one of the top point guards in the BIG 10. Some have said that he’s one of the best in the country. There’s no denying that Trice played a major role in the Badgers mid-season turn around last season that eventually led to a BIG 10 title. He’s been even better this year, leading a team that has consistently been ranked in the top 10 in the country. Towards the end of every tight game this season, the ball has been in Trice’s hands. Markus Ilver.

The day after their 23 point loss at Michigan, the Wisconsin Badgers received some good news.  They are picking up a verbal commitment from Western Reserve Academy (Ohio) 2021 forward Markus Ilver.  Ilver is a 6-foot-8, 3-star recruit forward from Estonia. He came to the U.S. with the hopes of playing high major basketball. As a junior, Ilver played for Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia.  He then transferred to Western Reserve Academy. Additionally, he played for Estonia’s U18 team at the FIBA European Championships. Ilver averaged 6.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.  Ilver says Wisconsin is “the perfect fit”…
