The last time Wisconsin beat the number one team in the country during the regular season was October of 1997. That changed tonight.  The fifth ranked Wisconsin Badgers (16-3, 9-1) beat top ranked Nebraska (18-2, 10-1)  at the Field House Wednesday night. The defending national champions swept the Cornhuskers 25-23, 25-23, 25-18, handing Nebraska their first conference loss of the season.  Sarah Franklin led Wisconsin with 21 kills, hitting an incredible .381 on 42 attempts. Nebraska came into the match allowing an opponent hitting percentage of .119, but Wisconsin’s offense hit .207 on the night. Izzy Ashburn recorded 25 assists,…

Tom Brady

Leading up to the “Battle of the Bays,” there was a lot of hype surrounding the quarterbacks that would be featured: Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady.  Rodgers and Brady competed against each other for the fifth time in their storied careers Sunday afternoon in Tampa Bay. It was the first time in NFL history that two 3-time+ MVPs faced off in a game.  Surprisingly, it was the defenses that showed up and showed out all afternoon. The Packers scored touchdowns on their opening two drives, but didn’t score the rest of the game. However, Brady and the Buccaneers’ offense weren’t…

After the Packers ugly week one loss in Minnesota, many people pointed to the absence of Davante Adams as one of the main reasons Green Bay couldn’t get the job done.  The stats comparing Adams and the Packers’ receivers were a huge talking point.  Adams caught 10 passes for 141 yards and a TD. Green Bay’s receivers combined for 120 receiving yards and 0 touchdowns.  In week two, the results were different. Adams only caught two passes for 12 yards and a touchdown. Five of Green Bay’s receivers had more yards than Adams. Sammy Watkins had 93 yards, Cobb had…

If most volleyball teams lost the talent of Dana Rettke, Sydney Hilley, Lauren Barnes, and Grace Loberg — to name a few — most would consider the following season to be a rebuild. But not Wisconsin. Though they graduated these seniors after winning the National Championship, the Badgers are still in position for another big season. They will reload in hopes of clinching a fourth straight Big Ten Championship on their way to another deep postseason run.  The Big Ten Volleyball Preseason poll revealed that the conference’s coaches are still worried about Wisconsin, despite an unfamiliar looking roster. Big Ten…

Former (as sad as that is to say) Wisconsin volleyball star Dana Rettke earned one more collegiate award to add to her large collection. Rettke was named the Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year.  Rettke’s career was nothing short of incredible, both individually and in team accomplishments.  She was perhaps the biggest reason Wisconsin won three-straight Big Ten championships and the program’s first NCAA national championship in December.  Earlier this week, she was named Wisconsin’s Female Athlete of the Year. She earned the 2021 AVCA National Player of the Year award last winter.  Because of the extra year of…

week

Only 88 days until Packers football kicks off! Previously, I’ve predicted the outcome of weeks 1-4 and 5-8.  Here are my predictions for weeks 9-12! (And please remember, a lot can and will change between now and September 11th.) Week 9: @ Detroit Result: Win Detroit will be better this year than they were last year. Even so, the Packers should still win this game. Green Bay hasn’t played great at Ford Field as of late, but their sheer talent should outshine Detroit’s. I have the Packers coming off of a loss at Buffalo the previous week, so I think…

Only 111 days until Packers football kicks off! Last week, I predicted the outcome of the first four weeks of the season. Here are my predictions for weeks 5-8! (And please remember, a lot can and will change between now and September 11th.) Week 5: vs. New York Giants (in London) Result: Win I can’t see the Packers losing their first ever international game, especially against a weaker team in the Giants. This game is sure to have a lot of pomp and circumstance surrounding it. The Packers will put on a show for all of their fans from across…

Rodgers and Packers celebrate

Only 117 days until the Packers play their first game of the 2022 season! The NFL released each team’s schedule Thursday night. Ever since, fans have been predicting the outcome of each game. I’m going to join in on the fun, but please remember that these are very early predictions. A lot can and will happen between now and week one on September 11th!  Week 1: @ Minnesota Result: Loss For some reason, I just don’t feel good about this one. Last season’s disastrous week one performance in Jacksonville against the Saints lingers in my head. The Packers were incredibly…

Mike McCarthy is no stranger to Lambeau Field. The longtime Packers head coach will return to Green Bay to play at Lambeau Field this season for the first time since being fired during the 2018 season.  McCarthy won’t be wearing green and gold, though. He’ll be in blue and silver as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.  The NFL announced Wednesday morning that McCarthy and the Cowboys will travel to the Frozen Tundra in Week 10 to face the Packers on Sunday, November 13. Kickoff is set for 3:25 on FOX. McCarthy coached the Packers for 13 seasons (2006-18),…

Bowman will finish the current academic semester at UW while home in Detroit, Michigan. Upon completion of this semester, Bowman will continue his education and collegiate basketball career closer to home.  “We completely understand and support Lorne’s decision to step away from the program and university,” head coach Greg Gard said. “We know this is what’s best for him currently and also for his future. He has been an inspiration and important part of our team over the last two years…
