In case you missed it, Josh Hader lost his streak of no runs allowed a few weeks ago on June 7 after giving up two home runs. Since coming back from paternity leave on June 20, he has appeared in three games, pitching three innings and giving up three hits and one run. That doesn’t necessarily sound like the lights out closer we have come to count on in Milwaukee. However, this is a really small sample size of three out of 24 games that Hader has appeared in this season. It’s also important to remember that all this has been…
When it comes to the MLB draft, a lot of teams opt to draft high school prep players in the early rounds. However, two of the Brewers’ highest-ranked prospects have been college players drafted in the first round in recent years- Sal Frelick (Brewers #1) out of Boston College in 2021 and Garrett Mitchell (Brewers #3) out of UCLA in 2020. Offensive powerhouse Joey Wiemer (Brewers #2) was drafted in the fourth round out of the University of Cincinnati in 2020. The Brewers have the 27th overall draft pick this year. We will soon find out if they continue their…
Congratulations to Brewers shortstop Willy Adames for being named this week’s National League Player of the Week! https://twitter.com/Brewers/status/1521211084451061762?s=20&t=EN4WQSjGMJDMosTGWYEerw Across the past week, Adames was a consistent powerhouse behind the plate- much needed for the Brewers after a slow start to the season for the offense. Could this be a sign that the bats are waking up? It might be too early to go that far, as the Brewers still sit fairly low in MLB offensive rankings, but the end of April has significantly lifted those numbers. Adames especially has really found his groove, as this award proves. April 26 vs.…
This season, pitching has been a strength for the Brewers. Over the years, they have shown the ability to develop young pitchers and have found a knack in helping players brought in reach new potentials. This year, Trevor Gott may be the person who emerges as the next star in the bullpen. Is it too soon to say that he is the next star in the bullpen? Probably, but a team can never have too many strong pitchers, especially when your offense is as streaky as the Brewers has been. Having reliable pitching arms is a blessing and to…
It’s no secret that the Brewers and Cubs share a bitter rivalry and emotions tend to run high whenever the two meet. After losing the season-opening series 1-2, the Brewers hold the all-time record over the Cubs but very narrowly- 201-200. This weekend was no exception to the drama. Cubs pitcher Keegan Thompson is currently appealing to the MLB over his three-game suspension and fine for intentionally hitting Andrew McCutchen and clearing the benches in the process. Catch up on the incident here. The incident has drawn fire from both sides on social media. Cubs backers argue that Thompson’s actions…
Each spring, sports media is filled with predictions for the upcoming season. CBS Sports and The Athletic always name a candidate from each team they predict will be a “breakout” player in the upcoming season. This season, CBS Sports is pegging reliever Jake Cousins as the Brewers’ pick. The Athletic names former MVP Christian Yelich. Jake Cousins There are plenty of reasons to believe in Jake Cousins after his great 2021 season. That’s why I would say this is a lazy pick for a breakout candidate. Cousins’ performance last season is basically a textbook example of a breakout season. He set…
The Biloxi Shuckers went 45-69 during last years minor league baseball season. In this article, I will break down what the 2021 Double-A season meant for the Biloxi Shuckers and their big-league affiliates in Milwaukee. Biloxi competes in the South division of Double-A, formerly known as the Southern League. The Shuckers ended the season fourth place in the division and missed the playoffs. At the conclusion of the season, the Shuckers trailed the division leaders and eventual Double-A South champions, the Mississippi Braves by 23.5 games. Names to Know from 2021 Garrett Mitchell If you follow the Brewers enough to…
The new Top 100 MLB Prospects dropped and the rankings have shaken up over the last year. Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. takes the #1 Prospect honors. Like 2021, two Brewers prospects crack the top 100. This year, it’s outfielders Sal Frelick and Joey Wiemer. Both are widely regarded as some of the finest in the Brewers’ farm system. Neither Frelick nor Wiemer are strangers to honors. Both received high praise from Baseball America’s Ben Bader in his rankings of the Brewers prospects last summer. #70 Sal Frelick Frelick was the Brewers’ 2021 first-round draft pick and started the 2021…
The foundation of any MLB team is their minor league affiliates. The Brewers’ Triple-A squad, the Nashville Sounds, had a largely successful 2021 season. I’ll break it all down here. The Nashville Sounds went 70-58 in the 2021 season. Nashville is a member of the Southeast Division of Triple-A East. The Sounds were actually affiliated with the Brewers previously, from 2005 to 2014. Since then, they’ve bounced around but finally ended up back under Milwaukee in the 2021 Minor League restructure. The Sounds really turned things around in the 2021 season. Granted, the 2019 and 2021 teams don’t share much…
Our 2021 Brewers season report card series continues with catcher Manny Piña and his performance this season. Piña split time behind the plate this season with All-Star Omar Narvaez. Despite not being a consistent presence for much of the season, “Pineapple’s” status as a fan favorite skyrocketed this season. August 12 was a statement game for the catcher, who hit his first career grand slam and then followed it with a two-run homer in the Brewers’ definitive 17-4 victory over the Cubs. 2021 Offensive Grade: B+ Piña had 180 at-bats across 75 games, earning 34 hits and 27 runs. He…
