Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but a player in the Milwaukee Brewers organization has been suspended after testing positive for a banned substance. The culprit this time is minor league pitcher Braudin Ciprian. He tested positive for stanozolol, a synthetic steroid derived from testosterone. Athletes use the anabolic steroid to build muscle mass and bounce back quicker from workouts. https://twitter.com/AdamMcCalvy/status/1573428712124604419?s=20&t=uqr3zQiudyrFmMrZbbQtEA Who is Braudin Ciprian? Ciprian is a pitcher most recently with the Milwaukee Brewers’ Dominican Summer League first team, or DSL Brewers 1. The DSL teams are Rookie affiliates of the Brewers. He is now on the restricted…
There’s no denying it- the Brewers have been playing some pretty ugly baseball lately. After a disastrous trade deadline, things went from bad to worse and the team seemed to have imploded. The start of September promised a fresh start in a stretch where the Brewers have historically performed really well. One week into “Craigtember”, we’re left asking the question: will the Brewers even make the playoffs this season? At 8 games behind the Cardinals for the NL Central pennant, the Brewers’ best bet now is a Wild Card spot. Looking at the Brewers’ schedule for the rest of the…
The Major League Baseball Players Association will be attempting to unionize all players in the Minor League system. This includes upwards of 5,000 players who currently have no collective bargaining power and face unfair working conditions. https://twitter.com/MLBPA_News/status/1564237263307001857?s=20&t=Qi4QlU9Rtjc4zxyNnUozqw Unionizing the minor league players could be a long process, of which MLBPA has taken the first step. This was sending out authorization cards to all minor league players. If at least 30% of them sign it, a vote would be triggered for the players to unionize. This would designate the MLBPA as minor leaguers’ collective bargaining representative. ICYMI, MLB has been hustling…
There’s no way around it- this past week has been straight-up painful as a Brewers fan. The latest hit? Luke Barker, who made his major league debut with the Crew this season, has been designated for assignment. Although he’s only made a handful of appearances with the Brewers, he’s become a fan favorite, especially with the Brewers Twitter community. The relief pitcher had a rocky road to the Majors. He’s enjoyed plenty of success in recent years with the Brewers minor league system. He debuted with the Brewers in June at age 30 amidst a flurry of bullpen injuries and…
The Brewers made waves Monday afternoon when they traded superstar Josh Hader to the San Diego Padres. As a result, they received major leaguers Taylor Rodgers and Dinelson Lamet and prospects Robert Gasser and Esteury Ruiz in return. Today, the Brewers designated Lamet for assignment, thickening the plot. https://twitter.com/ByRobertMurray/status/1554909196360957952?s=20&t=1KlqHlriZPT9mBMNnrhfPA The trade was already unpopular with Brewers fans, especially after Stearns and Co. failed to add a major league bat in any following trades. The trade deadline came and went Tuesday with nothing to soften the blow of giving up the best reliever in baseball but a decent closer, Dinelson…
With the Brewers offense picking up since the All-Star break, the pitching staff has caught a bit of a break. That said, the pitchers are still killing it. Josh Hader seems to have regained his magic and Devin Williams remains scoreless going back to May 10. Aaron Ashby proved he deserved his extension and Corbin Burnes is reminding everyone why he’s the reigning Cy Young. The Bullpen’s Unsung Hero It’s not easy to stand out as a pitcher in a dugout full of Cy Young and Reliever of the Year candidates. Reliever Hoby Milner has quietly been shutting it down…
The MLB Draft is the most exciting event of the year for young baseball players who eagerly await hearing their names called. Where will they go? What team will they play for? What comes next? First stop: the minor leagues. Unfortunately, the disconnect from draft day to work in the minor leagues is jarring. Once the glitz and glam wear off, these athletes go from stars to another cog in the MLB’s money-making machine. They work grueling hours, training to be the best they can be for the chance to make it to the bigs someday. Many live paycheck to…
In case you missed it, Willy Adames had himself quite the game Wednesday night against the Pirates, ending the night with 7 RBI, 4 hits, and 2 homers to help the Brewers secure an impressive win over the Pirates. The night was quite the statement from the shortstop. https://twitter.com/MikeVassallo13/status/1519362412889186307?s=20&t=TLssiyR22_M69OjK0UeY9Q So Who’s Next? While baseball is a team game, the difference between winning and losing often comes from one player having a great (or terrible) game. Today, let’s look ahead to the positive side- who’s going to be the next Brewer to have the game of their life? It could happen…
With the Brewers roster as battered and bruised as it has been this season, no position has been safe, including the typically rock-solid pitching staff. Pitching and the outfield have been the hardest hit so far this season. Brewers pitchers Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta, Adrian Houser, Miguel Sanchez, Luis Perdomo, Jake Cousins, Justin Topa, Aaron Ashby, and Jandel Gustave have all dealt with injuries at some point this season. As Freddy Peralta was sent to the 60-day injured list, the Brewers claimed Chi Chi Gonzalez off of waivers to help round out the bullpen. Coming to the Brewers, Gonzalez had…
If you haven’t been paying attention to the Brewers’ dugout, the home run bell has had some company the past week. The Brewers have started to wear the Infinity Gauntlet after hitting a home run. Apparently, just ringing the bell was getting boring for the Crew. https://twitter.com/MLBONFOX/status/1540061999203340291?s=20&t=AOSKEW7u26NE-AjGRUN7zA If you’re not a Marvel fan, you might be confused about the giant, golden, gem-encrusted glove. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Infinity Gauntlet is made for Thanos by the King of the Dwarves. It harnesses the power of the six infinity stones, giving its user an incredible amount of power. In…
