In case you missed it, Josh Hader lost his streak of no runs allowed a few weeks ago on June 7 after giving up two home runs. Since coming back from paternity leave on June 20, he has appeared in three games, pitching three innings and giving up three hits and one run.
That doesn’t necessarily sound like the lights out closer we have come to count on in Milwaukee. However, this is a really small sample size of three out of 24 games that Hader has appeared in this season. It’s also important to remember that all this has been while rising to the occasion of being a new dad to baby Lucas Alexander.
Hader’s one appearance between the June 7 loss and going on paternity leave was perfect. He struck out three batters in one inning pitched.
Currently, Hader is tied with San Diego’s Taylor Rogers for number one in saves with 22 to date. He has a 1.19 ERA over 22.2 innings pitched. It is important to keep things in perspective that even when Hader is in a so-called “slump”, he is doing just fine. We have gotten pretty spoiled with his performance and all of the records he’s broken the past few seasons. Due to that, we tend to hold him to a pretty impossible standard; he is still human, even if he doesn’t pitch like it the majority of the time.
So What?
Brewers fans, we have nothing to worry about. Josh Hader is still the most dominant closer in baseball and he’s still getting the job done for the Crew. The baseball season is a long haul and we’re right in the middle of it. The Brewers have a lot of games left to play and we definitely want Josh Hader closing lots of them.
