Aaron Rodgers has limited options for the 2023 season
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has yet to discuss his plans for next fall with the team. The four-time MVP emerged from his darkness retreat recently unsure whether he’ll play in 2023. Retirement is one option for Rodgers. But entering the offseason, there seemed to be multiple places he could play in the NFL. That number has reportedly dwindled.
The New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, and Carolina Panthers are teams that have been linked to Rodgers this offseason via trade. The Panthers seem like a long shot, as they’re far from competing for a Super Bowl.

The Raiders seemed like an intriguing option, given Rodgers’ connections to former Packers wide receiver Davante Adams. According to Vic Tafur with The Athletic, the Raiders brass doesn’t think it’s in the franchise’s best interest to spend the money on Rodgers with all the other “holes” they have on the roster. (Do the Packers feel this same way this offseason?) The Titans’ management seems content with their current quarterback room.
Rodgers basically has three choices
That leaves the Packers and Jets as options for Aaron Rodgers to play football for next season. According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, the idea Rodgers will leave Green Bay seems to be gaining more traction, and the Jets seem like the only realistic bidder at this point:
“My sense is ultimately it will come down to whether he wants to play elsewhere, which would be really the Jets, or whether he wants to retire,” Shefter said.

General manager Brian Gutekunst’s comments at the NFL Scouting Combine were purposefully spoken like a politician, not trying to offend the sensibilities of Rodgers or Jordan Love. We’ll see how long Rodgers can keep his options to the three choices of the Packers, Jets, or retirement.
The longer Rodgers waits to commit to the Packers fully, the more appetizing young players at the combine must seem to the Packers leadership, who might be considering how to use those young weapons around the future of Love.
