Thus far, it has been an off-season to remember for the Wisconsin Badgers. Between the hiring of Luke Fickell and the transfers of Tanner Mordecai and Graham Mertz, the Badgers have stayed busy. Despite big names staying and leaving, the 2023 team is still far from being finalized. Here is a quick look at the biggest updates involving the Wisconsin Badgers’ targets that have yet to commit.
Monica Evers joins the recruiting trail for the Badgers
Newly transferred and enrolled quarterback Nick Evers from Oklahoma has already made his impact felt. Evers, as well as his mother Monica Evers, took to Twitter and reached out to receivers CJ Williams from USC and J. Michael Sturdivant from Cal. Evers was also pivotal in keeping receiver Trech Kekahuna from signing elsewhere due to their personal friendship.

Perhaps the Evers’ family recruitment comes at the right time, with Quincy Burroughs from Cincinnati taking a visit to Madison. CJ Williams visited campus yesterday and met with the Badgers’ staff before venturing through the classrooms and facilities. Nick Evers is set to enter campus next week and begin training full time with fellow Badgers shortly.
Gino Guidugli wastes no time making his first moves
Coach Luke Fickell has brought along a significant staff with him, that is still growing as well. However, his latest move of adding Gino Guidugli as the passing game coordinator and tight ends coach is already paying off. On January 4th, before Guidugli was officially hired by the Badgers, he had already made his first move in offering tight end Cane Berrong a roster spot. Berrong is a former four-star recruit who originally committed to Notre Dame. However, after failing to touch the field in 2022, Berrong has decided to look elsewhere for playing time.
Blessed to receive an offer from The University of Wisconsin!! @GinoGuidugli pic.twitter.com/4yxTk0OQAS

Berrong hasn’t been able to record a collegiate stat yet, but he does come with four years of eligibility remaining. The young tight end isn’t quite as quick as his teammate Michael Mayer, yet they have a similar physical play style. Berrong would be a huge pickup for the Badgers due to his scheme fit and Phil Longo’s ability to utilize all his receiving options.
The speed and influence of Guidugli is rather remarkable, since he is one of the first staffers to offer Berrong. Guidugli, a former quarterback for Cincinnati, has never been a tight ends coach before but brings with him a rather impressive track record. The last two seasons that Guidugli has worked with quarterbacks Desmond Ridder and Ben Bryant, who each have completed 50 or more passes to tight ends as the starter. Guidugli has understood how to use a tight end effectively and Berrong could be the next to do it for the Badgers.
