The Wisconsin Football Recruiting staff has now lost two commitments on the same day, as a talented three-star athlete has flipped to a rival program.
Vernon Woodward, a 2024 three-star recruit from Florida, has flipped to the rival Illinois Fighting Illini. Woodward shockingly announced his commitment via Twitter following the completion of all three of his scheduled official visits. The Wisconsin Football Recruiting staff hosted Woodward earlier this month and sealed his commitment shortly after. Now, the recruit will play elsewhere.
Wisconsin Football Recruiting Surprisingly Loses Two Commits in One Day

Shortly after tight end and fellow 2024 recruit, Robert Booker, announced he would re-open his recruitment, Vernon Woodward shockingly flips to Big Ten rival Illinois. Woodward, like many other recruits, completed all of his scheduled official visits despite committing to a school already. Some recruits feel it is necessary to complete all of their obligations, and others want to make sure they find the right next home.
In the case of Woodward, he had a scheduled official visit with Illinois on June 9, and completed his final visit to Central Florida on June 16. Now, five days later, the cornerback has officially flipped his commitment just after the Badgers landed three-star cornerback Jay Harper. While Woodward has not announced the reasons behind his decision, it could potentially have to do with playing time in the future.
Illinois currently has two upperclassmen cornerbacks on their roster and no 2024 commitments at the position. The Wisconsin Football team, on the other hand, has two upperclassmen, two underclassmen, and one commitment in the 2024 class. While Woodward is a physical fit for the Badgers system, he potentially has a better chance of playing initially with the Illini.
With Woodward & Booker Gone, What Can the Badgers Do Next?
After the Wisconsin Football Recruiting staff lost out on two recruits in one day, the next step should be landing their replacements. While Booker may return to the program due to how he left, it is still very possible that he also goes elsewhere. Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Football staff are surely on edge now as the concerns among fans and analysts begin to mount.
Both departures are completely out of nowhere for the Badgers, and it could take quite some time to fill the spots in their recruiting class.
