The Wisconsin football staff has already been active in the transfer portal as they have contacted a former four-star recruit following his Texas A&M exit.
Raymond Cottrell, a former four-star recruit in the 2023 class, was the first player to announce his intentions of leaving the Aggies. Cottrell committed to the Aggies as the 218th recruit nationally and agreed to play for Coach Jimbo Fisher. Following the firing of Fisher, Cottrell entered the portal and Wisconsin football was quick to contact the receiver.
Wisconsin Football Contacts Former Four-Star Texas A&M Receiver Following Portal Announcement
Wisconsin football has certainly struggled this season, and as they enter their final game with a 6-5 record, there is no doubt about it. The Badgers, Coach Luke Fickell, and the entire coaching staff have not produced the product that they had hoped for. At this point, the only thing for Wisconsin to do is to continue to build their culture and talent as the staff solves the on-field issues.
The Wisconsin staff has understood this and worked hard to bring in top-tier talent to Madison to ensure that the team can continue to get better. The Wisconsin football team just recently received a commitment in the 2025 class from three-star offensive tackle Michael Roeske. Now, Wisconsin is aiming for a star transfer addition to start their next portal class.
Cottrell is considered to be the best overall transfer available currently, and plenty of teams have pounced on the chance to land him. The receiver has garnered plenty of attention since announcing his entrance into the transfer portal. Programs such as Colorado, Kentucky, Florida, and Texas have been in contact with Cottrell, with Florida being the home state of the receiver.
The receiver recorded one reception this season as the Aggies primarily used Cottrell as a depth player. Cottrell was not able to red-shirt this season, which means he will have three-years of eligibility left.
Can Wisconsin Badgers Football Land a Star Receiver in Raymond Cottrell?
For Wisconsin football, the pursuit of Cottrell will be quite a difficult one as the receiver has already racked up the attention of nearly 20 known programs. If history possibly repeats itself, then Cottrell will likely commit to his next program rather quickly. As a high school recruit, the receiver had 12 offers and three visits before making his collegiate decision.
The Wisconsin Badgers staff will have to work hard to land Cottrell in the future. The 6-foot-2-inch wide receiver is a big, physical player with excellent hands. His talents could certainly come in handy for Wisconsin football in the near future.
