The Wisconsin football staff has been working hard to develop relationships with 2026 recruits, especially a dominant Washington, D.C. native.
Tariq Boney, a three-star edge rusher in the 2026 recruiting class, has become a player to watch on defense as his stock continues to grow. Boney holds plenty of major scholarship offers from programs such as Auburn, Texas A&M, West Virginia, and the Wisconsin Badgers football program. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Boney broke down what the keys to his recruitment are, as well as his thoughts on Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Football Eyeing 2026 Three-Star Edge Rusher Tariq Boney Following Productive Season

After the opening of the recruiting period last month, the Wisconsin football staff shifted their attention to the 2026 class. As the staff continues to speak with recruits and develop relationships, one edge rusher has stood out for the staff.
2026 three-star edge rusher Tariq Boney has put his name on the map after a solid last season. While Boney is listed as an edge in most databases, his play on film is closer to an athlete since he can rush the quarterback or stuff the run as an inside linebacker if needed. Boney has become a true student of the game as he spent extra time on the field and in the gym this past season to improve his game.
Currently, Boney has been speaking the most with Penn State, Tennessee, and Duke, but has also kept conversations up with Wisconsin. When asked about the interest from the Wisconsin football staff, Boney stated “I believe it is a great school if you wanna play big time football so all in all it feels pretty good.”
Tariq Boney: “Other Than Competition I Look at the Education Side of Things”

For Boney, the recruiting process has been smooth sailing thus far as he continues to sort through schools to find what he truly wants. When asked about what he is looking for in a school, Boney responded “Most definitely competition level is a big thing that I look at because I believe I am a great player and for me to accomplish my dreams I have to play against the best.”
Boney also stated, “Other than competition I look at the education side of things because I want to go to a university that I would be able to graduate from, and I mainly wanna go somewhere that feels like home.”
As much as the recruit wants to make an impact on the field, he is also focused on making an impact on his community in a major way. Boney plans on majoring in psychology when he attend college, and stated, “I would want to become a therapist so that I can help people get through some of the problems that people go through because mental health is a big problem in our community today.”
What Would the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Need to do to Land Boney?

For the Wisconsin football staff, the key to potentially landing Boney in the future is displaying what the school can do for him. The biggest aspect of the recruitment process for Boney is the competitiveness a school has both inside and outside of the classroom. Boney wants to be challenged, but along with that the recruit also understands that challenging himself could be the key to becoming the great player he desires to be.
