Following the departure of Michigan football Coach Jim Harbaugh, plenty of programs including the Wisconsin football staff have contacted recruits.
With the National Championship win and multiple victories over the Ohio State football team, Coach Harbaugh accomplished everything he planned on with the Wolverines. Harbaugh moving to the NFL certainly did not come as a surprise, but it may have caught some of their 2024 and 2025 recruiting class off-guard. One such player who expressed his disappointment was once linked to the Wisconsin football program, and could be once again.
Wisconsin Football Eyeing Flip Opportunities Following Coaching Carousel
After plenty of coaches and staff members moved around, the landscape of college football is once again about to change. Following the move of a head coach whether it be a firing or the coach taking a different job, the current roster and recruits who have signed are granted a temporary transfer portal.
This happened first with the Washington football team after Head Coach Kalen DeBoer became the next Alabama coach. Washington saw a large portion of their roster leave the Huskies program for Alabama, the portal, or the NFL draft.
Now, the same situation is occurring with Michigan, but on a much smaller scale as many players understood this season would likely be the final for Harbaugh in Ann Arbor. For the recruits and signee’s however, this situation is a bit different as many expected to play for Harbaugh.
The Wisconsin football staff has kept close contact with recruits who have signed or made verbal commitments for this very situation. One particular signee for the Wolverines has expressed his disappointment following the Harbaugh news, which could open up an opportunity for the Badgers.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Flip I’Marion Stewart From Michigan?
I’Marion Stewart is a four-star receiver in the 2024 class, and currently remains a signee of the Wolverines recruiting class. Stewart was once heavily connected to the Wisconsin football team before he received a chance to meet with both Harbaugh and Offensive Coordinator Sherrone Moore.
Stewart developed an excellent relationship with both staff members, however following Harbuagh announcing his move to the NFL, the receiver posted in a now deleted Tweet a frowning emoji.
It is likely that Stewart was excited to play for Harbaugh and is now disappointed he does not get the chance to do so, but it is also possible that Stewart no longer feels as comfortable with the Wolverines. The Wisconsin football staff has kept a close eye on the Michigan and Washington situations, and could make a move for Stewart given the timing.
A Look Ahead: What is Next for Wisconsin Football Recruiting?
Currently, the staff is still on the road visiting a handful of recruits in the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes. The primary focus for the staff has been building their 2025 class, which has included visiting the schools of recruits and spending time speaking with players. The goal at this point in time for the staff is to continue to build relationships and develop deeper pipelines.
