The Wisconsin football staff has shrunk by another member once again as a seasoned coach leaves the team.
Wisconsin Badgers defensive line coach Greg Scruggs has accepted a job under the same title with the Michigan Wolverines. Scruggs will now reunite with a former staff member from his past, Head Coach Sherrone Moore. Wisconsin football has already lost key staff members this off-season, and now loses another one of their top recruiters from this past season.
Wisconsin Football Defensive Line Coach Greg Scruggs Accepts Michigan Wolverines Opening
Wisconsin football lost another staff member to an opposing school, and it was certainly a big move. Greg Scruggs has been one of the premier recruiters for the Badgers since joining the program and assisted in the majority of the Badgers recruiting trips. Scruggs will now join the Michigan Wolverines staff after accepting the same role, with likely a much larger pay increase.
A Look Ahead: Potential Replacements for the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff
Wisconsin football will likely move quickly to fill their current hole at defensive line coach much like they did with their safeties coach opening. While there have been plenty of coaches moving around this off-season, there are still some coaches who have yet to move that Wisconsin could target.
The first coach has a deep connection with Luke Fickell as he has worked with the coach before.Walter Stewart is currently the outside linebackers coach at Cincinnati and has spent time as a defensive line coach as well. Stewart is considered to be one of the top available line coaches, and could get a big payday from Wisconsin.
Another potential option for Wisconsin football could be defensive line coach Ralph Street. Street has led the Marshall defensive line for the past three years now, and has produced some of their best play during his tenure.
Wisconsin Football In Need of Another Premier Recruiter
Between the trio of Fickell, Tressel, and Longo, Wisconsin has plenty of recruiting talent and power. However, some of the most experienced recruiters who had traveled across the country for the Badgers are no longer with the program, leaving a major hole.
Both Colin Hitschler and Greg Scruggs had been some of the busiest and most successful recruiters for Wisconsin football. Now, each coach has accepted a higher paying opportunity as a way of programs recognizing their success. Realistically with the new landscape of college football, it would have been very difficult for Wisconsin to keep such talent together on their staff.
The Badgers will need to find some recruiting help somewhere, whether it be current members or potential new hires.
