The Wisconsin basketball team could be without Sophomore guard Connor Essegian for their match-up against #9 Tennessee.
Essegian, who scored four points off the bench against Arkansas State, only played five minutes before exiting the game for good. The guard battled for a rebound against an opposing player before he, unfortunately, fell on top of Essegian. Badgers Head Coach Greg Gard stated post-game that the team will see how the guard “feels” in the three days leading up to their next game.
Wisconsin Basketball Set to Face-Off Against #9 Tennessee Potentially Down Sophomore Guard
The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team put together a great offensive performance in their first official game of the season. Wisconsin had four double-digit scorers, including Freshman John Blackwell, who scored 12 points off the bench. The Badgers also recorded 17 assists on the night against the visiting Arkansas State Red Wolves.
The Wisconsin basketball team played a great game offensively and defensively. However, one concern arose during the game as their talented guard, Connor Essegian, went down with a back injury. Essegian attempted to play through the injury but later exited the game and never returned.
Essegian, who had an opposing player fall on top of him, played just five minutes against Arkansas State. The guard was later seen riding the exercise bicycle on the sideline, cheering on his teammates. The Wisconsin basketball team has yet to give an additional update on his status for the upcoming clash against the #9 Tennessee Volunteers.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Team Take the Visiting Volunteers Team?
With Wisconsin still not positive Essegian can play against the Volunteers, the team will lean elsewhere for quick scoring. Both Blackwell and Isaac Lindsey will likely be the options the Badgers look for off the bench in their next game.
Chucky Hepburn and AJ Storr will certainly have to lead the way, scoring the ball once again. Hepburn recorded 20 points, six assists, and three steals against the Red Wolves on 70% shooting. Storr scored 15 points and recorded a steal and a block as he made his Wisconsin basketball debut.
When Coach Gard spoke to the media following the game, he did not make it sound as though the Wisconsin basketball team was not too concerned. Essegian could miss the game against the Volunteers but likely should not miss any extended period of time.
