The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team has been in close contact with a certain Lehigh transfer. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks lost against Wisconsin this season, 78-56, despite an 18 point performance from senior guard Evan Taylor. Taylor caught the eye of the Badgers staff and has since been one of their top targets in the transfer portal.

Wisconsin Badgers Interested In Experienced Guard Evan Taylor

Evan Taylor has been a member of the Lehigh basketball team since 2019, when he played in 28 games and averaged 7.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. From the start, Taylor immediately found himself with significant playing time and kept a starting spot for a chunk of time. Taylor did not have the best freshman season but showed that he has the ability to score with amazing performances against Holy Cross and Monmouth.

After a shortened 2020-21 season, Taylor came back during the 2021-22 season eager to make a difference. The guard displayed his development into a more consistent shooter as he averaged 13 points per game on 47.2% shooting from the field. Taylor also shot 41.2% from three point land and 74% from the free throw line. Lehigh also had success that season as Taylor led them to the Patriot League Tournament semifinal game against Colgate.

In the 2022-23 season, Evan Taylor proved to have his best season averaging 14.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 43% from three. Taylor and Lehigh finished the season with a record of 16-14 after losing in the Patriot League Championship quarterfinal against Lafayette. The talented guard recorded three double-doubles as well during his best collegiate season to date. Following the completion of the season, Taylor entered is name into the transfer portal to play out his final collegiate season elsewhere.

Wisconsin already received a fairly good look at Taylor after playing against him this season. Taylor had one of his better performances of the season against the Badgers, dropping 18 points while shooting 7-10 from the field. The guard also went two for three from three point range but the Mountain Hawks did not have enough to beat the Badgers. By far the best performance of the year for Taylor came against Navy when he exploded for 26 points and eight rebounds while shooting four of seven from three.

Lehigh grad transfer Evan Taylor tells @On3sports he’s heard from the following schools since entering the portal:

    Loyola Chicago
    DePaul
    Georgia
    Virginia Tech
    Wisconsin
    Tulane
    Santa Clara
    Indiana St
    Illinois St
    UTEP
    Richmond
    LMU
    GCU
    Drake

The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team was one of the first teams to contact Taylor when he entered the portal. Since then, Taylor has heard from schools like DePaul, Georgia, Tulane, and Virginia Tech among plenty of others. At six foot six inches, Taylor has incredible reach and a great ability to create space for both shots and rebounds. Taylor is also a capable defender both inside and out.

With one year of eligibility left, Evan Taylor will look to move on to a program where he can compete on a larger  scale. The Wisconsin Badgers basketball team could be the perfect landing spot for the excellent scorer as the team looks to build in the portal. The efficiency and effectiveness of Taylor could result in him becoming an elite level scorer next season with the right opportunity.
