Wisconsin Badgers: Greg Gard Reveals 1 Irrefutable Reason Behind Struggles vs. Purdue

The Purdue Boilermakers are arguably the best team in the nation. One of the big reasons for that is no other than their 7-4 beast in Zach Edey, who pummeled the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday in Madison. The Badgers, like so many of those who faced the Boilermakers before them, were not able to quiet Edey, who was the single biggest difference in the contest, as pointed out by Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard after their 75-69 loss (Via ESPN:).

“They’re really complete,” Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said. “They’ve got a lot of pieces. We have a lot of pieces. But the difference maker obviously is Zach. You can’t replicate or simulate that.”

When it was all said and done on the court, Edey had posted 18 points and 13 rebounds to go with two assists and three blocks, while shooting 7/13 from the field and 4/8 from the free-throw line.

The Wisconsin Badgers Tried, But Zach Edey was Just Too Much to Handle

Purdue’s Zach Edey (15) is swamped by Wisconsin forward Tyler Wahl (5) and forward Steven Crowl (22) during the first half of their game Sunday, February 4, 2024 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin.

For what it’s worth, the Badgers managed to hold Edey to much fewer points than Purdue’s previous opponents. Purdue entered the date with the Wisconsin Badgers with Edey scoring a total of 56 points and grabbing 27 rebounds in the prior two Boilermakers outings.

Edey and the No. 2 Boilermakers are not yet in the rearview mirrors of the Badgers, though, as the Big Ten rivals will be meeting again on March 10 in West Lafayette.
