The Wisconsin Badgers football staff recently hosted defensive end Benedict Umeh, the top 2024 Connecticut recruit, as he made his first visit.
Had a blast on my official visit at Wisconsin this weekend! Thanks to @G_Scruggs, @CoachFick, @CoachMikeTress, @CaseyRabach_61, and the rest of the staff @BadgerFootball for taking care of me and my family 🙏🏿 pic.twitter.com/yrSYawhP5P

Benedict Umeh comes in at 6-foot-5-inches, 260-pounds and currently sits at the top of the Connecticut football rankings. Umeh is also ranked as the 13th overall defensive end and the 139th recruit nationally. This past season, Umeh led the Avon Old Farms defense as he significantly boosted his recruiting status. Now, the defensive end is a four-star recruit after transferring from West Toronto Prep in Canada.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Impresses Defensive End During Recent Official Visit
As the Badgers continue to host more recruits for their official visits, the recruiting trail has started to seriously heat up. Between recruits leaving impressed and crystal ball predictions being thrown around, Wisconsin is bound to start landing 2024 recruits shortly. Among the happy recruits was Umeh, who got the chance to talk about his experience after the conclusion of his visit.
According to Jon McNamara of Rivals, following his visit Umeh stated that he felt the ‘strongest bond’ within the team and coaching staff in Madison. Coach Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo have been focused on creating an intense, competitive team that can play tough football. After getting his chance to meet with the staff in-person, Umeh learned quickly what Wisconsin football is all about.
Wisconsin football has a great history with Avon Old Farms as of late, with Marshall Howe and Christian Alliegro both joining the Badgers from the school. Now, Umeh is in the sight of the Badgers as he continues to open up his recruitment. Signing Umeh would make it three consecutive years the Badgers have landed players from Avon Old Farms, which could help develop a new pipeline the program has not experienced before.
Can Wisconsin Football Land Four-Star Benedict Umeh After Recent Official Visit?
Umeh is a quick, athletic defender with an eye for finding his way into the backfield. Offenses often struggle against Umeh because he has multiple tools he can use to get to the ball carrier. His versatility is arguably his best trait, and will certainly come in handy once he makes the jump to collegiate football. Umeh has been quiet about his recruitment, but based on his official visits scheduled it appears to be a four-way battle for the defensive end.
Currently, Umeh has scheduled visits with Wisconsin, Penn State, Stanford, and Duke. The talented defender is expected to commit to a school before the start of next season, which puts more pressure on each program to make the most of their visits. After getting the chance to meet with the staff in Madison, Umeh felt as though the program offered him the most out of all of his visits thus far.
There is still a long road ahead before Umeh decides to make his commitment, but the Wisconsin football staff certainly took advantage of the short time they had with the recruit. Umeh previously stated that he wanted to find a university that could offer both an academic and athletic fit for the next four years. Thus far, the Wisconsin Badgers football team and staff has proved this to Umeh.
