The Milwaukee Brewers have quietly been acquiring pitching depth by means of the waiver wire. Players like Vladimir Gutierrez and Corbin Martin have been claimed recently. They also have been selecting the contracts of a few Nashville Sounds players as well in which Kevin Herget, Jared Koenig, and Tobias Myers all have been on the 40-man roster at various points lately. One of these players has now officially been traded to the Boston Red Sox.
28 year old pitcher traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Boston Red Sox.
On April 5, 2024 the Brewers claimed Vladimir Gutierrez off waivers from the Miami Marlins. He was assigned to Triple-A Nashville, made two appearances, allowed seven earned runs, and now two weeks after joining the organization he has been traded to the Red Sox for cash.
Vladimir Gutierrez had been designated for assignment on April 17, 2024.
Gutierrez was designated for assignment on April 17 in which he was a roster casualty during the addition of Tobias Myers. When designated for assignment a team has to give all other ball clubs an opportunity to submit a waiver claim or they can trade him. Boston elected to strike a trade rather than risk someone else claiming him.
When was the last time the Brewers and Red Sox struck a trade?
Although this is a minor trade, Milwaukee and Boston do have a recent track record of working with one another. Last summer the Brewers dealt Luis Urias to the Red Sox in exchange for pitcher Bradley Blalock. Blalock currently has thrown 17 consecutive scoreless innings in the minor leagues. In recent memory they also came together for the Hunter Renfroe and Jackie Bradley Jr plus prospects trade.
