In the NFL, there are always injuries, and you have to sleuth the waiver wire in fantasy football regularly. But this past week was an especially tough week for star player injuries. You could be one of the hard-hit fantasy football team owners looking to replace Joe Burrow, Kenneth Walker III, or Mark Andrews. Who could you get to replace some of that production on your fantasy football squad?
Fantasy football waiver wire adds
Let’s take a look (A note: I try to choose players who are likely available or have a decent chance to be available in most leagues):
Gardner Minshew
If you need a quarterback streaming option in the wake of the Joe Burrow injury news, we have one for you in Minshew. The journeyman quarterback has played pretty well for the Colts after an injury to rookie starter Anthony Richardson. Minshew has a great matchup with the worst passing defense in the NFL, Tampa Bay. It is also at home.
Zach Charbonnet
Charbonnet is the likely workhorse this week for the Seahawks after the Ken Walker III injury. Charbonnet has not scored a touchdown this season, but I like his chances to reach paydirt Sunday. The rookie running back has 261 rushing yards and 19 catches on the year and caught six passes last week. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll seems to love the kid as well. With the Seahawks likely losing to the 49ers this week, expect a lot of dump-down passes to Charbonnet. So, even if Charbonnet doesn’t find his first touchdown in a PPR league, he is still a very nice option.
Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham Jr. was the old OBJ last week. The veteran has had a long injury past, but Beckham eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the Ravens. Beckham’s numbers don’t look great in 2023, with 24 catches for 374 yards and two touchdowns. However, prior to his 116-yard performance Sunday, the previous two weeks, Beckham caught his two touchdowns. Now, with Mark Andrews out, potentially for the season, Beckham is breaking out at the perfect time. Hit the rewind button, and OBJ may be relevant in fantasy football again.
Isaiah Likely
See the last sentence of why OBJ would be a great pickup. With star Ravens tight end Andrews out, Likely is likely to get a lot more throws his way. The Ravens have always loved to utilize the tight end position, and Likely showed flashes last season of being a very good tight end. If you had Andrews or Luke Musgrave, who will be out at least four games, Likely is an option.
The second-year man hasn’t been involved much in the Baltimore Ravens offense this year, with just nine catches for 89 yards. It is surprising after Likely showed flashes in his rookie season, hauling in 36 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns. While not good for many fantasy football owners, Likely could again find himself back involved in the Ravens’ offense after Andrews’ likely season-ending injury.
