Milwaukee Bucks fans are not happy with how some select individuals treated Tyrese Haliburton’s family during Indiana Pacers’ visit to Wisconsin for the NBA Playoffs.
After their Game 2 win on Tuesday, Haliburton revealed how his younger brother received racial slurs from Bucks fans during their Round 1 opener on Sunday.
Tyrese Haliburton Opens Up About Milwaukee Bucks Fans’ Racist Behavior
Speaking to reporters after helping the Pacers win 125-108, Haliburton opened up about the painful ordeal his family, specifically his younger bother, had to go through in Milwaukee. Apparently, someone from the stands called his brother the N-word.
It was clear Haliburton was thinking about not sharing the events that transpired in Game 1 of the series, but he revealed that they felt the need to address it.
“My little brother in the stands the other day was called the N-word. It was important for us as a family to just address that, and that was important for us to talk about. Because that just didn’t sit right with anybody in our family, so it’s been important to have my family here right now. My little brother’s handling that the right way,” Haliburton shared, per Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
What made things even worse is that Haliburton is a Wisconsin native. He was born is Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and he was even excited to return and play a postseason game in his home state–even though he’s part of the opposing squad.
Unfortunately with the recent incident, what was supposed to be a great home return was ruined and instead filled with disappointment.
Milwaukee Bucks Fans Reacts To Tyrese Haliburton’s Revelation
After learning of what Tyrese Haliburton’s family had to go through, several Milwaukee Bucks fans showed their support to the Indiana Pacers star and his family. Many condemned what happened and highlighted that it’s just heartbreaking to see.
“Honestly bigger than this bucks loss. This is heartbreaking,” a commenter wrote on Nickel’s report. Another one said, “Embarrassing. Don’t be a trash bag.”
An angry Bucks supporter furthered, “Whoever said this s**t is not a true Bucks fan. F**k that dude. Doesn’t belong in Fiserv or anywhere in Wisco.”
“Jesus… so called fans gotta be better…” a fourth supporter added.
It remains to be seen how the NBA and the Bucks organization will address the issue, but it certainly isn’t a good look and something that will be talked about when the series returns to Milwaukee.
Hopefully, something like that won’t happen again. There’s just no room in the NBA for such hate. And while it’s understandable that fans can be too passionate, there are certain lines that shouldn’t be crossed. Obviously, the fan in question crossed that line.
