Tramon Williams has been a household name for Packer fans for over a decade. The 37 year old is a free agent, and here is why the Packers should make sure he comes back.
Veteran Presence For Young Defensive Backs
If re-signed, Tramon Williams will be playing his 14th NFL season, 11th with the Packers. Tramon has played in three NFC championship games, and has a Super Bowl ring. His knowledge of the game and veteran leadership are qualities that don’t show up on stat sheets, but are pivotal to the success of the team.
Cornerback Depth
The Packers cornerbacks right now are; Jaire Alexander, Kevin King, Josh Jackson, Chandler Sullivan and Ka’dar Hollman. Although Sullivan played well last year, the Packers may not want to give him a much larger roll. With Tramon Williams back on the team, he will most likely be the starting slot corner once again.
Oh Yeah, He Is Still Good
Tramon Williams was actually very good last season. Pro Football Focus had him ranked as the 6th best corner during the 2019-2020 regular season! He only allowed 20 first down completions (ranked T-13 best). He had two interceptions, eight passes defensed, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, a tackle for a loss, and a quarterback hit.
To Conclude
The Packers would likely re-sign Williams on a cheap, one-year deal. His experience, leadership and versatility would be valuable to a defense with a lot of young players in the secondary.
