St. Louis Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras was ejected for arguing balls and strikes in the seventh inning on Tuesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This was a theme during the game as three ejections were handed out after arguing balls and strikes, but Contreras had the most dramatic exit.
At the time of Contreras’ ejection the Red Birds were trailing by three, had the bases loaded, and he did not like home plate umpire Brennan Miller’s strike zone. After chasing strike three out of the zone Willson Contreras was immediately ejected, he drew a line in the dirt with his baseball bat, and then spiked his bat down in frustration. After not capitalizing in this big moment the Cardinals went on to lose the game by a score of 6-3.
Willson Contreras was ejected for arguing balls and strikes during the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates game. His manager Oliver Marmol and rookie Jordan Walker were also ejected.
In total three Cardinals players were ejected in this game. Joining Willson Contreras was manager Oliver Marmol and rookie Jordan Walker. All were ejected for arguing balls and strikes. This marked Marmol’s ninth career ejection (sixth this season), Contreras’ eighth (second this year), and Walker’s first.
