Ex-Milwaukee Brewers infielder Luis Urias joined the Seattle Mariners organization via trade this off-season. He was traded by the Boston Red Sox in November of 2023 after previously being acquired by them on August 1, 2023 when Milwaukee received Bradley Blalock in return.
Upon reporting to the Mariners camp this spring two concerning reports have surfaced regarding Luis Urias. One is about the health of his shoulder and the other is his playing shape. A combination of these two issues, but mainly the shoulder, may result in him starting the 2024 season on the injured list.
Luis Urias is dealing with shoulder inflammation.
Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports that Luis Urias is dealing with shoulder inflammation that could result in him starting the regular season on the injured list. He currently is limited to light tossing around 70 feet. The expectation is that he will play third base this year, so he is a long ways away from being capable of throwing 127+ feet.
The Seattle Mariners fan base is blasting Luis Urias for reporting to camp “in less-than-stellar shape”
Officially have zero hope for Luis Urias
You just can’t come into spring out of shape after a down season where you got DFAd
Perhaps was a red flag that brewers DFAd him w/ options with production he had in prior years

So we traded a healthy out of shape 3B that everyone loved for a not healthy out of shape 3B that nobody expects anything from? Nice!

The ex-Milwaukee Brewers third baseman has struggled over the past few seasons.
With the Brewers Urias had a breakout year in 2021 when he hit 23 home runs and collected 75 RBI. In 2022 his production fell way off and in 2023 he injured his hamstring on opening day. Another discouraging fact is that he did not play well in Winter ball this year as over 100 plate appearances he slashed just .177/.300/282.
