The San Francisco 49ers may be the favorites in the divisional round against Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers, but they are in no way underestimating their opponents. Just ask Niners linebacker Fred Warner.
After the Packers upset the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round–even becoming the first seventh seed ever to win a playoff game–Warner and the rest of the 49ers have become more wary of them. They are well aware that they cannot make the same mistake as Mike McCarthy’s men.
Warner also noted how good Love played against the Cowboys, and he knows the 49ers can become the next victims if they do not take the Packers seriously.
“Jordan Love played the game of his life in his playoff debut. He’s been phenomenal down the stretch. It’s gonna be a huge test for us this weekend. I’m not taking the Packers lightly,” Warner said, via The 33rd Team.
“The Cowboys must’ve taken the Packers lightly. We are going to have to put together a great week of preparation. I said from the start, whoever gotta come into Levi’s, bring em on. It’s gonna be such an electric atmosphere, such a fun atmosphere to be a part of. It’s gonna be one for the ages.”
The San Francisco 49ers are well rested and have every advantage one can imagine. They have two MVP candidates in quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Christian McCaffrey. They’ll have the homefield advantage. And more importantly, they are a battle-tested team compared to a young squad like the Green Bay Packers.
Nonetheless, the Packers are brimming with confidence, and it could be dangerous for the 49ers. Fred Warner and Co. cannot afford to make mistakes if they want to take down Matt LaFleur’s side.
Green Bay Packers Have a Chance vs. San Francisco 49ers
The Green Bay Packers are heavy underdogs on Saturday, with the ESPN Matchup Predictor giving them just a 21.4 percent chance to beat the San Francisco 49ers.
Those are not good odds for sure, but one should remember that they also had just around 26 percent chance to take down the Dallas Cowboys. But see what happened.
While it will be difficult, the Packers have what it takes to win any game. Nonetheless, their chances lie on Jordan Love having another perfect game and the defense stepping up.
If the Packers can limit Christian McCaffrey’s touches, all while keeping the pressure on Brock Purdy, they’ll have a shot. Of course they will need the offense to keep buzzing, particularly Aaron Jones.
The Cowboys had a better defense than the 49ers during the regular season, but the Packers were able to outshine Dallas. With that said, it’s wrong to write off Green Bay even though they are against a team that is on another level.
