Everyone knows the Green Bay Packers are the underdogs in the NFL Playoffs divisional round against the San Francisco 49ers. But exactly how low are their chances to win the game?
Well, we finally have our answer, with the ESPN Matchup Predictor giving the Packers a 21.4 percent chance to win. Of course the 49ers are at 78.6 percent, and unsurprisingly so.

The 49ers are simply in a whole another level. They are the NFC’s top team for a reason. And no one finishes with a 12-5 record by luck. The Niners could have been 13-4 had they not rested their starters in the final game of the year since it’s meaningless for them.
With that being said, the odds are really stacked against the Packers in their showdown with the 49ers.
Nonetheless, as the ESPN machine indicated, their chances aren’t zero. It is also important to note that the Green Bay Packers were only given a 26.4 percent chance to beat the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round, but here they are now preparing for another postseason contest.
At the end of the day, those are just numbers based on past data. As what the Packers proved in their 48-32 demolition of Dak Prescott and Co., it doesn’t really matter that much come the playoffs.

How Can the Green Bay Packers Defeat the San Francisco 49ers?
Interestingly, in a preview by ESPN, analyst Seth Walder shared some insights on how the Green Bay Packers can actually pull off an upset over the San Francisco 49ers.
Per Walder, the Packers’ chances lie on quarterback Jordan Love and their defense. Love has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL, and if he can play as perfectly as he did against the Dallas Cowboys–when he became the first player ever to record a perfect passer rating in his playoff debut–Green Bay will stand a chance.
The Packers’ defense has been below average throughout the 2023 season, but they did step up in the meeting with the Cowboys. Now, the challenge for them is to stay consistent on that end.
For what it’s worth, Packers running back Aaron Jones is pretty confident about their ability to beat any team, telling reporters after Sunday’s win that he believes they have all the weapons they need.
“We believe in each other. We have faith in each other. We know we have all the weapons in the building, in that room, however you want to put it, we have all the weapons we need on this team. People can continue to doubt us. That’s fine. We love the underdog mentality. We love the underdog approach. What are people going to say next, you know? We’re excited to see that,” Jones shared.
It’s really hard to imagine the Packers winning, but as what everyone has learned, it’s best not to write them off.
