The Green Bay Packers are going into 2021 with a problem at the running back position. Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams, the team’s two top rushers, are both free agents. Jones already has turned down a major contract offer that would have made him one of the top five highest-paid running backs in the NFL. According to reports, Jones is also garnering a lot of interest from other teams around the NFL. Jamaal Williams, though, appears to be more willing to resign with the Packers.
What Jamaal Williams Said Regarding Free Agency

Williams full statement included the following: “I’m thinking about free agency, but I’d really love to just be a Packer all my life if I could. They gave me my first shot. I love Green Bay.”

Of course, Packers’ fans have heard this before. From many players. Aaron Jones included. However, the stars may align to ensure that Williams’ wish will be fulfilled.
Why the Packers Should Bring Back Williams
As it stands, AJ Dillon will be the Packers’ starting running back in 2021. Behind him, though, there are not any backs that would garner much excitement or warrant much playing time. They need to bring in some depth.
Jamaal Williams, as a career backup, is an excellent candidate to resign with the Packers because his salary demands will not be as high as other free agents. Additionally, he is an above-average pass protector and protects the ball very well. Since Williams has played two seasons in Coach LaFleur’s offense, retaining him would mean that the team’s top two backs would not need a crash course in the offense. Having these two already embedded in the offense will help ensure continuity of success for the NFL’s best regular season offense.
