JL Skinner Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Skinner has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
- Has good football awareness to read and react quickly and stay balanced and patient in space
- Gives up his body in run support with a very good closing burst
- He’s a willing and capable hitter in run support and closes fast to make plays against quick screens
- He’s an enforcer in the middle of the field and flashes the ball skills to create turnovers
- Has enough speed and fluidity to come down and guard slot receivers and even some tight ends in man coverage
Weaknesses
- Needs to develop a better understanding of route combinations and better overall vision
- Inconsistent getting off of blocks. Can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression

JL Skinner in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Skinner is a projected second-round pick. Skinner has the whole package of run and pass support. Boise State is enough of a recognized brand that it doesn’t scare teams away. His weaknesses are coachable which always helps when drafting a player in the first couple of rounds. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Skinner being taken.
- Pro Football Network – No. 31 overall: Eagles
Would JL Skinner Fit on the Packers?
I really like Skinner as a fit for the Packers. He excels in run support and recognizing screens and quick passes. The Packers play off coverage a lot so they need players who can recognize plays and close quickly. Safety is one of the top positions of need for the Packers so it would not shock me if Skinner was a prospect GM Brian Gutekunst was looking at.
Check Out Another Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers
There are a limited number of top safety prospects so I expect Gutekunst to draft one in the first three rounds. If he decides to go with another position in the first round, Skinner could be a prospect they target.
