The Green Bay Packers hosted their first offseason workout sessions today. At first glance, one might have thought players were reporting for gameday because of the April snow showers in Green Bay.

As seen in the video above, several important players showed up for these voluntary workouts. These include Rashan Gary, Aaron Jones, Preston Smith, and AJ Dillon. Not present was Aaron Rodgers, who has already stated he will be skipping any voluntary camps again this offseason. Earlier today, it was announced Rodgers will team up with Tom Brady in a golf match against Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes.
Money on the Line for Offseason Workouts
Despite the fact that the 2022 NFL Draft has not even happened yet, players have big incentives for showing up to the offseason workouts. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, 17 players can collect $4 million in workout bonuses for participating.
Packers offseason workout bonus list continued:
Preston Smith: $150k
Randall Cobb: $100k
De’Vondre Campell: $50k
Marcedes Lewis: $50k
Jarran Reed: $50k
Aaron Rodgers: $50k
Amari Rodgers: $40k
Josiah Deguara: $30k
Pat O’Donnell: $30k— Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) April 18, 2022
As mentioned previously, Aaron Rodgers will not be participating, so he will not be receiving his $50,000 workout bonus. That being said, all of these amounts count against the Packers salary cap in 2022. If a player does not show up, the team will receive a cap credit for his workout bonus amount towards to salary cap in 2023 (per Ken Ingalls).
Players to Monitor During Offseason Programs
Of particular interest is the performance of David Bakhtiari and Robert Tonyan during these offseason workouts. Both players missed substantial time in 2021 due to knee injuries. Their presence at these workouts is hopefully an indicator that they are on track to be back on the field in 2022.
