NFL news: The storyline centered around the plight of running backs in the league just took a major twist. This is after former Wisconsin Badgers star Jonathan Taylor has demanded a trade away from the Indianapolis Colts. Taylor’s stunning decision comes shortly after his meeting with team owner Jim Irsay on Saturday.
NFL News: Jim Irsay Reacts to Jonathan Taylor’s Trade Request
League insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network first broke the news on Twitter:
“Sources: #Colts star RB Jonathan Taylor has formally requested a trade after meeting with owner Jim Irsay, Rapoport wrote in his tweet.
Needless to say, Taylor’s meeting with Irsay did not go well. Both parties entered the meeting with the objective of finding common ground with regard to Taylor’s contract extension. Obviously, Taylor did not like what the Colts had on the table, and he has now made it abundantly clear that he wants out of Indianapolis.
Irsay has quickly come out with his own reaction to these shocking developments, and let’s just say that the 64-year-old isn’t exactly devastated by the news:
“If I die tonight and Jonathan Taylor is out of the league, no one’s gonna miss us,” Irsay said, via JPAFootball on Twitter.
“The league goes on. We know that. The National Football (League) rolls on. It doesn’t matter who comes and who goes, and it’s a privilege to be a part of it.”
That’s a pretty savage response from Irsay, which seems to indicate that the relationship between Jonathan Taylor and the Colts has gone beyond repair.
NFL News: Jonathan Taylor is a Wisconsin Badgers Legend
Simply put, Jonathan Taylor owns one of the most decorated resumes in the history of the Wisconsin Badgers football program. This includes two Unanimous All-American nods during this four-year tenure with the Badgers, as well as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year title, two Doak Walker Award wins, and three appearances on the All-Big Ten First Team, to name a few.
Taylor’s heroics in college football carried over to his time with the Colts in the NFL, with the All-Pro running back being named the 2021 SN Offensive Player of the Year and the recipient of the 2021 Bert Bell Award.
It now goes without saying that there’s going to be a lot of interested parties in the league now that Jonathan Taylor has declared his intention to leave Indianapolis.
