NFL news: The running back situation in the league has become one of the highlights of the offseason thus far. At this point, it is clear that the RB’s in the NFL are fighting to get the money they deserve, which based on recent developments involving the likes of Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs, to name a couple, has not been the case.
Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones has now shared his honest thoughts on this major issue, and to some extent, it could be a cause for concern for the Green Bay Packers.
NFL News: Aaron Jones Speaks Out on Concerning State of Running Backs in League
In a recent interview, Jones got brutally honest in expressing his displeasure with the current plight of running backs in the NFL:
“I think running backs need to be taken care of a little as well,” Jones said, via Packers News. “They go through so much. Every player getting hit or hitting somebody. It’s crazy to me how they try to bring down the value of a back.”
Jones then talked about how important running backs are to their respective teams, which also includes their willingness to risk their own health for the good of the squad:
“The best ability is availability,” Jones continued. “I feel like I — not just me, but a lot of these backs have been available for a lot of games, playing through injuries and different things like that.”
When asked if he feels it would be ideal for players to secure new deals as early as possible, the Packers star responded affirmatively:
“I definitely think so because I feel like the older you get, the least they want to pay you,” he said. “They think you’re on a time clock or something like that. … Everybody’s different. You can’t put everybody on that same box. Everybody’s different. People are in their primes at different times.”
NFL News: Aaron Jones Took Pay Cut for Packers This Season
Aaron Jones took a salary cut for the Packers just this summer. He agreed to a reduced salary of $11 million this coming season, which is a clear testament to how the Pro Bowl RB really wants to stay in Green Bay.
However, based on his recent comments, it is clear that Jones has his limits. There’s no denying that he would prefer to remain with the Packers beyond next season when his current contract runs out, but at the end of the day, Aaron Jones wants to get the money he deserves. Can you really blame him?
