While fans and analysts have their doubts about Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Jordan Love, his teammates sure don’t. Over the course of the offseason, multiple current Packers players, in various interviews, have said how great of player, person, and leader Love is.

Add cornerback Rasul Douglas to the list. He recently was on Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback Darius Slay’s podcast, and had some extremely high praise for Green Bay’s new starting quarterback.
Rasul Douglas Says Jordan Love Was Cooking the Green Bay Packers Defense

Slay of course, was highly complimentary of Love after the young quarterback relieved an injured Aaron Rodgers last season in a game against the Eagles. In his show following the game, Slay said, “Green Bay has a bright, bright future… cuz’ buddy was slinging it.”
Douglas had similar remarks in the most recent episode:

“Well I wasn’t at there at OTA’s the whole time, so I don’t know what he was doing. But I know last year he was cookin’ us practice. And we were on him! On him, on him, on him!
“I like how he carries himself to the game. He got that swagger to him like, ‘I hear you, but I don’t at the same time. I’m going to be myself.’
“And I think that’s what we all are trying to take off his back. Like, you don’t got to be Aaron, A-Rod. You don’t got to be him because, honestly, there’s only one or two of him anyway! Like, c’mon, man, you don’t normally see people like that.
“So you don’t have to be him. You just got to be you, and the best you is all we need.
“He good though. Like every throw, he can make it. Like last year, he was in the pocket, no looks, everything and I’m like, ‘Oh my goodness!’ So he got it all in his game, whatever he want to do he can do.
“I think it’s going to be a pretty good year. I think people that don’t know what he’s capable of doing, they’re going to see it.”
This certainly is similar to what his other teammates have said of him over the past few months. It is really telling that a lot of these players are defenders. It is their job to make life difficult for Love and the offense. If Douglas says they were cooking the defense, that is a very good sign that Love will be cooking other defenses during the season.
Now, detractors might say, “Well, the Joe Barry/Packers defense really isn’t all that good.” That is a fair criticism based off of the past two years’ results.
That being said, it was the run defense that struggled the most; not the passing defense. Last season, the Packers’ pass defense allowed the sixth fewest passing yards per game (197.0) and in 2021, ranked tenth with 219.1 passing yards per game allowed.
So it is not like Love was throwing against a poor passing defense in practice. He was throwing against a top-ten passing defense.
That is something to be excited about!
