Green Bay Packers fans grew accustomed to the Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams connection. It was a legendary connection that led to many memories and a great deal of wins. Of course, both Rodgers and Adams are on different teams now. Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders last offseason and Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets a little over a month ago. Now, Packers fans look ahead to a future with Jordan Love and a plethora of young wide receivers.

One of those young wide receivers is Christian Watson, who had a roller coaster rookie campaign in 2022. After a slow start, he ended the season with 41 receptions for 611 yards and seven touchdowns (he scored an addition two touchdowns on the ground). Watson recently spoke with PFF’s Trevor Sikkema about Love and his connection with the first year starter.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Christian Watson Has a Strong Connection with Jordan Love
As fans may remember, Rodgers did not show up to any offseason activities last season until mandatory training camp came around. The task to practice with the rookie wide receivers and initiate them in the offense fell to Love. He has also spent time this offseason working with his skill players outside of organized team activities. The amount of time Watson has had with Love in these settings has led to the duo forming a strong connection. Perhaps this is why Watson had such great things to say about Love to Sikkema:
“People need to understand that [Love] was learning and practicing and in the meeting rooms with a Hall of Fame quarterback each and every day. He’s his own quarterback, but I’m sure he’s taken so many things from Aaron [Rodgers]. We’ve seen a lot of flashes of what he can do. It’s only going to be put more on display. Everything we’ve seen so far is only going to be multiplied. We’re ready to go out there and ball. We have full confidence in him.”
For all the criticism that Rodgers has received on his way out of Green Bay, no one can say that he did not do everything he could to take Love under his wing and teach him the best that he could. Brett Favre infamously refused to help develop Rodgers, but Rodgers did not take that approach with Love. The national media has recently loved to push the storyline that the four-time MVP was a bad teammate. However, former Packers backup quarterback Brett Hundley told Wisconsin Sports Heroics nothing could be further from the truth. Rodgers has always been one to work with his backups and help them be the best versions of themselves.
While Love is his own quarterback, in many ways he has a better head start than Rodgers had because the veteran before him took the time to help him. The pass catchers are young, but they have a connection with Love, and we saw last year just how important the receivers’ connection with the starting quarterback is. It took weeks for Watson and Doubs to get on the same page with Rodgers. This year, they will start Week One on the same page with Love.
