The Green Bay Packers wrapped by voluntary organized team activities last week and are beginning mandatory mini camp this week. While most of the roster was present at the voluntary activities, not everyone was. Some that showed up, such as David Bakhtiari, did so in order to collect the workout bonuses in their contracts. Those that did not show up will not be paid their workout bonuses.
Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander was one of the players that did not show up for any of the team’s voluntary activities. Because of this, he will not be paid his $700,000 workout bonus for this season. When asked about why he did not attend the voluntary workouts, Alexander had a very surprising answer.
Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Likes to Be Alone
To be clear, no one, not coaches or players, was worried about Alexander’s absence. It was simply a personal choice of his. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky asked him about his absence and reported a surprising response:
The world according to Jaire Alexander:
Stayed in Green Bay til April, left when offseason program began, came back for this week’s minicamp and said he’ll stay most of the summer.
Said he likes to be here when others aren’t and is fine missing out on his $700K workout bonus.

The reason Alexander did not participate in OTA’s or any earlier workouts was simple: he wanted to be alone. Sure, he lost out on $700,000; but he is due to make over $13 million on his base salary and other bonuses outside of the workout one.
Every player is different. Some enjoy working out with friends or other teammates in the offseason. Others feel like they get into a better mental mindset when working out alone. As said, no one was concerned about his absence. It is simply a decision being one of the highest paid cornerbacks in the NFL is able to afford making.
