The Green Bay Packers 2023-24 season came together impressively. With an average age of 25.13 (youngest in the NFL), Green Bay became the youngest team in the Super Bowl era, and the first seven-seed to win a playoff game. After a dominating performance versus the Dallas Cowboys, the Packers fell just three points shy of punching a ticket to the NFC Championship.
Those three points faltered off the foot of Anders Carlson in the fourth quarter of the Green Bay Packers matchup with the San Fransisco 49ers, where the sixth-round pick slightly pulled a 41-yard field goal attempt to put the Packers up seven. Such a miss was predictable, ending a season in which Carlson missed six of 13 attempts from 40+ yards in the regular season (as well as five missed XP’s). With competition looming in training camp, Carlson’s high ceiling remains to be seen.
Anders Carlson Looks To Bounce Back For Green Bay Packers

Anders Carlson was brought in as the starting kicker after all-time Packers scorer Mason Crosby’s departure. Carlson sported an SEC pedigree out of Auburn, as well as a football family (brother Daniel is a star kicker for the Raiders). Unfortunately for all parties, Anders had an extremely inconsistent rookie year despite his sixth-round draft position.
Carlson talked about his infamous miss and moving forward with his mindset.
“It was a little tougher because you just had to sit on it for a long time,” Carlson said. He called it “pretty painful” and “a motivation” going forward.
“You’ve got to spend time on it and learn from it. You can’t just avoid it. It’s the reality,” Carlson said. “That was a big thing, just kind of closing that chapter. Learning everything you can from it, taking it and absorbing it all, and then moving on.
“For me, life is in the present. You can dwell on the past, you can focus on the future, but really, when you’re living life, it’s all about the present. That’s where I’m standing and I’m excited to be here.”
Anders Carlson’s potential is not in question as he showed the ability to make high-pressure kicks consistently in college as well as delivering on multiple occasions in his rookie season. If offseason competition helps Anders hone his talent, the Green Bay Packers may have a huge turnaround in their special teams fortune.
