Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love may have the admiration and respect of his teammates and other NFL players, but there are talking heads in the national media that are determined to tear him down at every turn. Of course, the most notable recent Love hate-session was produced by CBS Sports’ Adam Schein. However, he is not alone in his opinion.
For a long time now, Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown has been a vocal supporter of Love and has used his platform to build up the young quarterback. In his weekly segment “Under the Helmet with the Gravedigger” on The Earl Ingram Show, Brown had a pointed message for those who want to criticize Love after two weeks of training camp.

During the show on Monday morning, Ingram asked Brown about the media outside of Green Bay that seem determined to make Love out to be an awful quarterback. He responded:
“Don’t test the man. I mean, when a dude has been putting his time in for this long, let’s give him a chance! You know what I’m saying? Let’s not just throw everything in and say, ‘Oh he sucks. Let’s get the other guy in.’
“Sometimes it takes you to fail, Earl, to see.”
Now, to be clear, Brown is not saying that Love will fail in Green Bay. Presumably, he is referencing that “failing” early in training camp is one of the best ways for young players to learn.
And this is important to keep in mind for several reasons. First, it has been widely reported from media members in attendance at training camp that Love has not made the same mistake twice. If he makes a mistake, he does not let it ruin his confidence. Rather, he learns from it and becomes better.
Second, Packers fans need to remember that MVP Aaron Rodgers was the not the player that took over for Brett Favre in 2008. It took him years to master his craft. In a past interview on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers talked about how he would focus on only one or two particular things every offseason in order to master them. Over time, those things stacked up.
Finally, and this is most glaring: Adam Schein is a Chicago Bears fan, a die-hard admittedly biased Bears fan. How can this man, whose quarterback, Justin Fields, has never won a game against the Packers be qualified to call a Green Bay quarterback a bust?
Foolishness.
