Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, once again, was the target of an unnecessary and derogatory attack on his talent as a football player. Adam Schein of CBS Sports went on an absolute tirade about how Love cannot play football that drew reactions from Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell and former quarterback Kurt Benkert.
Many have compared Schein’s non-sensical monologue to a Skip Bayless take, which makes sense. Emotion aside, though, iHeart Media’s Mike Heller had a perfect analysis and response to Schein’s comments regarding Love during his show on 97.3 The Game on Monday afternoon.
Mike Heller Gets Real About Criticism of Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love
If one has not heard the audio of Adam Schein’s comments, they can be found in Heller’s show linked above. After playing Schein’s comments in which he claims that Jordan Love cannot play football, that the Packers stink, and that he loathes Love, Heller gave a level-headed and great analytical response to the overly emotional CBS analyst:
“The thing that bothers me the most in [the clip], even though, Armen, I understand what he’s doing here is he’s hawking newspapers. He’s the beer vender yelling out, ‘Cold beer here! Get your cold beer here!’ He’s selling it. So he’s got to yell it, because he’s selling it.
“Jordan Love hasn’t quarterbacked a preseason game this year. At that point [of Schein’s comments], he hadn’t had his family night. So Adam Schein is saying, ‘This guy can’t play. He sucks.’
“This is my problem with all of this, again, understanding that he’s selling: I don’t know what Jordan Love is going to be. Armen, you don’t know what Jordan Love is going to be. [Matt] Schneidman doesn’t know. John Kuhn doesn’t know. None of these guys know.
“So I can’t argue against Adam Schein, ‘There’ no way this guy sucks.’ All I’m doing is saying, ‘I don’t know, and you’re just selling your product.'”
Heller goes onto to discuss the decisions that people make in their business. Schein has made the decision to be extreme, and as Heller states, it works. He is good at selling his product.
That being said, Heller maintains that no one can know for certain what Love will be. He says, “I think he will be good. I do not know if he can be great; but you can win with a good quarterback.”
Adam Schein “Loathes” Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love
There are certain things that come with being a professional athlete, and analysts like Adam Schein spewing uneducated opinions about one’s play is one of them. As Heller states, no one really knows what Jordan Love is going to be, so saying he is terrible right now is just a guess.
However, what really was, in my opinion, unprofessional and telling about Schein’s rant was when he said, “I hate Love. I loathe Love.”
See, that isn’t about Love’s play on the field. That is not about what talent he may or may not possess. That’s personal. That is unwarranted. What reason does he have to loathe Love as a person?
Schein is an admitted biased Bears fan, so it stands to reason why he may not like Packers players. But to get personal, to hate them as a person? It may be part of the product he is selling, but it was unbecoming.
Hopefully, Love can silence the critics in 2023 by proving them wrong with his play on the field.
