The Las Vegas Raiders could be on the verge of a major blowup this season in head coach Josh McDaniels’ second season in the desert. Reports came out this week the Raiders are in jeopardy of losing running back Josh Jacobs this season if they don’t offer him a long-term deal. He might not be the only star the Raiders could be without during the regular season.
The Raiders have tried to overhaul their offense from last season. Quarterback Derek Carr is now with the New Orleans Saints after the Raiders cut him in favor of signing Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency. The offense was expected to be still good with Jacobs, the 2022 NFL leading rusher in the backfield, and wide receivers Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers.

NFL News: Davante Adams could be traded by the Las Vegas Raiders
Two of those three might miss a good chunk of the 2023 season–and might not be seen at all in 2024. Dan Graziano with ESPN wrote about the most intriguing players for the 2023 season. They wrote a frustrated Adams could be traded if the start to the 2023 season isn’t promising:
“Adams forced his way out of Green Bay last offseason so he could go to the Raiders and play with his college buddy, Derek Carr. But the Raiders benched Carr late in the 2022 season and released him in February. Adams has spoken publicly about his disappointment over losing Carr, and even about his skepticism regarding the acquisition of Jimmy Garoppolo and the plan that coach Josh McDaniels is putting in place.
It seems pretty clear that Adams, in spite of his reservations, is willing to give McDaniels and Garoppolo a shot. He proved last year that he didn’t need Rodgers to be a top wide receiver, and he surely believes he can perform at the same level with Garoppolo. But things could get ugly in a hurry for the Raiders, who have seen a major overhaul since McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler got there 17 months ago but don’t appear to be any better. In fact, some might say they appear to be worse than the team that finished the 2021 season on a playoff run under interim coach Rich Bisaccia with Carr as its emotional leader.
If that’s the case, will Adams want out? At the trade deadline? After the season? The potential for Adams to be on the move again so soon after bailing out of Green Bay is worth watching. And if it comes to that, it might be hard to blame him.”
Would Davante Adams return to the Green Bay Packers?

Two trades in two seasons? That’s getting into James Harden territory. Adams would have every right to ask for a trade if the Raiders are without Jacobs and the offense sputters with Garoppolo under center.
Adams opted to be traded to the Raiders to play with Carr. The team benched his preferred quarterback at the end of the season. A fierce competitor, Adams would want to cut his losses quickly and try to join a contender.
I don’t see Adams returning to Green Bay without Aaron Rodgers–if the trade happens by the deadline. Adams would likely want to land where the quarterback position has been established for a few seasons. But if the Packers are a playoff team this year, maybe Adams will opt for a reunion if he wants to be traded next offseason.
