The Green Bay Packers chose to move on from a quarterback that had been participating with the team since OTAs. The Packers signed quarterback Alex McGough early in training camp. They showed interest in adding Josh Love last week.
The Green Bay Packers cut a quarterback
According to a statement by the Packers, the team released Danny Etling Sunday.
“Etling was on the Packers’ practice squad late in the 2021 season and for the entire 2022 season.”

Jordan Love, Sean Clifford, and Etling were the three quarterbacks head coach Matt LaFleur wanted to see get extra reps with during OTAs instead of adding extra help this spring. Etling appeared to be the odd man out of those three quarterbacks when training camp started. Though it is surprising to see the Packers cut Etling this early in training camp, especially given his familiarity with LaFleur’s offense.
Jordan Love is obviously going to be the starter this season. Rookie Sean Clifford has been impressive in recent weeks and seems to be on his way to winning the backup role. In the coming weeks, we’ll see what the Packers do with the third-string role.
