Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles prefers wide receivers who can block. However, I don’t think he’s hoping his new right tackle will sprint downfield to catch passes from Justin Fields this year. But Darnell Wright accidentally trained to put his body in shape to do just that.
The Bears worked to overhaul their offense to help Fields in the passing game. The Bears added wide receiver D.J. Moore in a trade with the Carolina Panthers for the first overall pick. The Bears traded down from the Panthers’ nine spot to the tenth position to select offensive tackle, Wright.
The Bears coaching staff put Wright through a hard workout after Pro Day. Wright past the test, showing the coaches his willingness to work incredibly hard for his next NFL team. It was a draw to Poles and offensive line coach Chris Morgan.
Wright showed this offseason he was willing to do the impossible.
Chicago Bears rookie Darnell Wright took a WR test
According to Adam Hoge with CHGO, Poles said Wright crushed his conditioning test when he returned from camp. It helped Wright that he read the wrong conditioning test and did Moore’s workout this summer.
Update from Darnell Wright on this: He accidentally looked at the WR conditioning test and was training for that one (it’s longer and faster). So yeah, he crushed the OL test. 😂 https://t.co/30dTEcHBXW

#Bears GM Ryan Poles says No. 10 overall draft pick Darnell Wright “busted his butt” in the offseason. Wright has lost weight and body fat.
“He absolutely crushed the conditioning test. Like didn’t break a sweat.”

That made the rookie look foolish. While Wright showed he has the work ethic to complete complex tasks, he also revealed that his reading skills are…sus. The Bears might have to explain their offensive concepts to him slightly more than the average 🐻.
