NFL news: Sean Payton recently went on an unfiltered rant wherein he lambasted the Denver Broncos’ previous coaching regime. In his tirade, Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets caught a few strays as well. Actually, it wasn’t just strays as Payton decided to throw some direct shade at the Jets and their offseason dealings.
NFL News: Sean Payton Rips Jets’ Aaron Rodgers Trade with Packers
Apart from destroying Nathaniel Hackett and his previous stint with the Broncos, Payton also decided to go on a lengthy tirade aimed at the Jets. The veteran coach made it abundantly clear that he wasn’t pleased with how New York went about their offseason business, which obviously, centered around their chase for Aaron Rodgers:
“It doesn’t happen often where an NFL team or organization gets embarrassed,” Payton said. “And that happened [in Denver]. Part of it was their own fault, relative to spending so much (expletive) time trying to win the offseason – the PR, the pomp and circumstance, marching people around and all this stuff.
“We’re not doing any of that. The Jets did that this year. You watch. ‘Hard Knocks,’ all of it. I can see it coming. Remember when (former Washington owner) Dan Snyder put that Dream Team together? I was at the Giants (in 2000). I was a young coach. I thought, ‘How are we going to compete with them? Deion’s (Sanders) there now.’ That team won eight games or whatever. So, listen…just put the work in.”
Obviously, Payton isn’t a fan of the new Aaron Rodgers-led offense in New York. The Broncos shot-caller also hinted that he believes the Jets will not find as much success as they had hoped for when they went all in on the A-Rod trade with the Green Bay Packers. Payton wasn’t very cordial with the way he made his fearless forecast either.
NFL News: Robert Saleh Claps Back at Sean Payton
It wasn’t long before Jets coach Robert Saleh was caught wind of Payton’s slanderous take. Naturally, the New York coach just had to respond. Saleh took a bit of a high-road approach, though, as he refused to directly engage with Payton:
“I’m not going to acknowledge Sean. He’s been in the league awhile, he can say whatever the hell he wants,” Saleh said, via Jordan Dajani of CBS. “… I live by the saying, ‘If you ain’t got no haters, you ain’t popping.’ So hate away. Obviously we’re doing something right if you’ve gotta talk about us when we don’t play until Week 4. … There are a lot of crows pecking at our neck.”
That’s one passive-aggressive response if you ask me. Actually, Saleh was incorrect when he said that the Jets are set to take on the Broncos in Week 4. They actually face off in Week 5, and at this point, you can be sure that the fans are intently looking forward to the matchup.
