Saquon Barkley plans on playing for the New York Giants in 2023, but he knows the franchise can tag be used again on him in 2024 and doesn’t want that to happen again. Barkley knows he has to play for the New York Giants this season because he doesn’t want to forfeit that money. He admits to it on the podcast.
Barkley was offered a contract during the bye week by the New York Giants but declined it because he wanted to gamble on himself. He took a huge risk with that, and he could potentially lose that bet at the end of the day. General manager Joe Schoen stood his ground during the negotiating process, and Barkley even switched agents during the process.
Saquon confirms the #Giants made him an offer during the BYE Week but he declined it because he wanted to bet on himself.
“The number that they offered, they thought I was going to jump at it given my injury history.”

Saquon Barkley does not want to pull a Le’Veon Bell in 2023 by sitting out for an entire season, even if that means he will get the bag later. He mentioned San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey on the podcast because he is getting the paid the most at the position in the NFL at $16.5 million per season.
Saquon Barkley feels like he has the same skill set as Christian McCaffrey, and he is not wrong about that. Also, in the podcast, he mentions about maybe not playing at all in 2023 and talking to his family about it, but that feels highly unlikely.
Even with the $10.1 million tag, he is getting paid as a top-five running back entering the 2023 season. The issue is that the running back position has declined, and it feels like anyone can be plugged into that position at any moment.
