A Green Bay Packers safety missed practice Monday afternoon with a new injury. The Packers are getting ready for their first preseason game on Friday. But they might have a few players banged up before the game.
A Green Bay Packers safety sustained a quad injury
Seventh-round pick Lew Nichols missed practice Monday. The running back needs an opportunity in camp to move up the depth chart and earn a spot on the 53-man roster. According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, safety Innis Gaines joined Nichols as the Packers’ second non-participant at Monday’s practice.
Gaines is dealing with a quad injury.
Safety Innis Gaines (quad) is a new DNP. RB Lew Nichols (shoulder) not practicing again today after missing Family Night.

According to Our Lads, Gaines is projected as third on the depth chart for the strong safety position. That puts him behind Darnell Savage and Tarvarius Moore but ahead of Benny Sapp.
The UDFA made it to the Packers’ active roster in November after the team accumulated injuries in the defensive backfield. Gaines appeared in seven games last season and made six total tackles.
